Hello, This is Sir Lucian, DJMax's DPC 2023 Winner And this is the constructive criticism of Platina Lab as of 2025-04-13 Early Access I've been looking forward to playing this since the game announcement went public and genuinely had some hopes seeing the team members. Honestly satisfied with the concept and direction the game's heading towards. However, there are some hiccups I'd like to address. First, the mission concept is fantastic that it fuses into the normal gameplay, so you can enjoy doing your things while completing the missions. The option to just clear other things for more times instead of playing specific things is really nice. Although grinding specific things for 10 times like Full Combo instead of just clear 20 times isn't the best trade. And i also noticed the error of the mission's description as well. There's this Full Combo 5 times in the description, but the counter requires 10. Hope they fix this. Next is charting (pattern designing). The really high level stuffs (26-28) I have no opinion on that, and will leave this for top players to say. However, the mid to mid-high range (17-25) are significantly miserable to make higher score (and to Perfect Decode to some extent). Some 4K and 6K feels spot-on. Some have questionable choices. I noticed that the chords and stairs ("DOUBLE" and "STAIR" in game) are too orderly structured. Resulting in the feeling that "Was the chart made by CTRL+C and CTRL+V?" and I've seen some English speaking players saying this sometimes. The real problem are the 4K Plus and 6K Plus charts. To be fair. it is more technical and it utilises more PLUS notes (the FX/Trigger note). But the said range (17-25) had some really nasty combinations of notes that are against the position of your hands and fingers you're forced to play on the keyboard! (We'll talk about this in the next section) The PLUS notes being a part of streams, being treated as another normal key when it shouldn't according to the layout, the sudden difficulty spikes in easier levels, etc. This was really miserable to score indeed. The final nail in the coffin, comes from the unrebindable PITCH key (forced to be ENTER or NumPad ENTER). At first, I was perplexed by the fact that My RightAlt key doesn't work as my right Plus key. I thought "Okay, this might be the programming oversight. Hope they figure it out later." . And then I was surprised by the fact that there is no tutorial or any signs or in-game tips mentioning the pitch key. I finally figured that you had to use THE ENTER KEY to play it. Now everything makes sense, because Alt + Enter is the Windows shortcut to full screen the program. With this, I hope there is now a tutorial AND rebindable pitch key. Do I enjoy this game? YES, of course. This game already has the potential the other neighbouring games can't do, and I really hope to see something surprising down the rabbit hole. I've grinded 2 mission packs and reached PATCH 50k on 6K as of this writing. Devs, please, keep cooking. And for the info on the people who's looking to purchase - Wait until the next sale or update for now. UNLESS YOU ARE CAKE'S SIMP YOU DEFINITELY NEED CORRECTION 💢 Change Log 2025-04-16: Looks like rebindable PITCH is a thing now. Still, only Korean keyboard can use Right Alt.

God-tier VSRG; Personally, I enjoy it more than DJMax, which was my top rhythm game. Songs, composers, and charts are ultra satisfying. Effects and sound design is superior to DJMax; full combo and perfect combo feels great. Impressive value at 73 songs as of Early Access release, with more to come in future updates for free. Beginner friendly as well. Try it out! edit: Completed all missions and unlocked all content. Played through all songs 4+ times. Writing after 20 hours. Apart from the technical aspects covered in the main review, the underlying difference between Platina Lab and DJMax is pure-heartedness. The lineup, songs, chart style, art, and UI were made by a small team with a precise single vision and identity, which they successfully executed on and is reflected in all aspects of the game. DJMax had an identity in it's earlier standalone titles, but has since lost it, especially in it's latest entry. If you view the exclusive Platina songs, this becomes more apparent; especially the ones Mayo worked on. Then take into account how that theme was used to select the majority of the rest of the song lineup. Their vision was not influenced by outsiders, which is what makes it great and unique.

The game is off to a good start for an early access. Original song list so far is pretty limited, but their licenced selection is pretty strong. Depending on player it is a hit or miss on songs because most of the licence stuff is available in other games or free on BMS. Difficulty scaling is inconsistent. Would be nice if there was an option to hide UI elements during gameplay. More note shape options like circles would be nice. Though everything I mentioned is an easy fix or QoL add on I'm sure the devs are working on right now. Looking forward to the finished game. Hope they add more original songs.
