oh my god its peak. BUY IT RIGHT NOW 20/10 RG to any fans of KRG and Rhythm Game Culture in general. If you come from DJMAX you will be right at home. but the songlist my god BMS, KVGM, Doujin Music its all VERY good. Also Adorable UI/style reminds me of beatstream Update all the songs they have been adding, especially all the free ones which is abundant are insanely high quality and hype picks. Keep it up Platina team!

This review is covering the game in its Early Access phase. I will adjust it accordingly when the game releases fully. PLATiNA :: LAB is an amazing rhythm game with wonderful gameplay, great song selection (main reason I bought it lol), and immaculate vibes. However, it does have some very important issues as of the Early Access phase. Firstly, the gameplay. The song unlock system has got to be the best in any rhythm game that I've ever played that has one. It encourages you to try new songs and venture outside of your comfort zone and improve, but doesn't force you to, and unlocking the songs doesn't feel too sluggish. You'll have a mission such as getting a certain amount of perfects on a specific song or getting an S rank, or you can just play any three songs in lieu of the mission, so even if you don't want to or can't, you'll still unlock more songs just by playing the game. The charting is also amazing, and makes the game super fun just to play, and is exactly the quality that I was looking for in a developer-maintained 4k game. It's also less expensive compared to other developer-maintained 4k games, which is a plus. The song selection features some artists known for their work in other rhythm games, such as d-d-dice and EmoCosine, and also a lot of poppy tracks and vocal synth. It's definitely different from games such as EZ2ON or Beatmania, but I think that it works really well for PLATiNA :: LAB given its vibes. Speaking of... PLATiNA :: LAB features a laboratory aesthetic (surprising ! ), with the song unlocks referred to as "research" and playing songs as "decoding". There are also six (currently) databases, or DBs, who are kind of like "navigators" in other rhythm games. They'll talk to you in the menus and cheer you on during the results, and during gameplay hang off to the side and react to your playing, sort of like pop'n but with only your DB. I really enjoy the artstyle and story of the game, and think that it compliments well with the gameplay mechanics. Lastly, I would like to address my issues with the Early Access release. For both me and other people who I know who also play the game, the engine is just terribly unoptimised. Gameplay will have unavoidable lagspikes that will mess up your combo, making the game near unplayable at higher levels of play, and I even had to bring the resolution of the game to the minimum possible (which was 720p btw, I really should be able to go lower) just to get it to run at a bearable framerate. I would like to be able to say "ymmv" but this happens to other people who I know, and I'm able to run similar games perfectly fine. tl;dr PLATiNA :: LAB is an amazing, must-play rhythm game that is absolutely worth its price and then some, but, due to its poor optimisation in its Early Access stage, I cannot in good conscience recommend it in its current state to someone who would want to play it seriously while not owning a high-end PC.

Wonerful music selection and very well flowing charting styles across every mode. $30 for a base game music list that is all worth playing, and more is being added in time 4K difficulty caps out at around the button density of a SDVX 19 so if you're at all capable you'll probably perfect the game, but you get to play great charts for beautiful songs Nice small little rhythm game to effectively beat in a weekend

The game is off to a good start for an early access. Original song list so far is pretty limited, but their licenced selection is pretty strong. Depending on player it is a hit or miss on songs because most of the licence stuff is available in other games or free on BMS. Difficulty scaling is inconsistent. Would be nice if there was an option to hide UI elements during gameplay. More note shape options like circles would be nice. Though everything I mentioned is an easy fix or QoL add on I'm sure the devs are working on right now. Looking forward to the finished game. Hope they add more original songs.
