It is so astounding how good Postal is, especially when you consider the limitations the developers were likely working with back in 1997. Despite the age, the game succeeds in creating an uncomfortable atmosphere that many modern titles would struggle to replicate. What impressed me the most is that the game represents much more than the violence you commit. That contrast makes the violence feel disturbing and uncomfortable, especially given how well the unsettling soundtrack fits with the gameplay. Even almost three decades after it's release, Postal remains effective because it understands what truly is scarier than any kind of gore. It is watching someone decend into pure madness and go postal. After all what is scarier, getting mauled by an eldritch horror, or slowly watching someone decend into madness and ruining their life in the process? The game becomes a disturbing psychological nightmare that stays with you for a while after playing it. It is also very ironic that the developers considered a school shooting too grotesque to depict. Yet in hindsight that decision feels almost tragically accurate, as an unrelated real world tragedy would take place only a couple years later, and make such violence a horrifying reality.

They say the sweetest glimpse of heaven is on the descent into hell, and that's what it feels like playing a game like this. I recommend it in the same way one would recommend the Devil's Rejects; it's a horror experience less about supernatural terrors and more the kind that humans are capable of from the darkest depths of the depraved mind. Also, the land mines are weak sauce, I wouldn't rely to heavily on them.

Finalllly got round to playing this. My Postal journey has been a bit of an odd one. I started with Postal 2 when it first released, and got real hooked on it (as you do) but for some odd reason, it has taken me way too long to get back to the roots of Postal. Well I just played it, first attempt I got instantly hooked. Why does this isometric shooter feel so good to play? I'm not really sure, but the movement scheme really did remind me of how I would play an fps game, strafing techniques and all that good stuff. So I was amazed those kinda mechanics were in this game. I'm not really good at making reviews, but I really wanted to get my thoughts out on this one. This game IS fun :) That pretty much sums it up. So with that said, I am now gonna fire this back up and do the remaining campaigns :) Three cheers for RWS, this is damn good fun!

The game that starts off the POSTAL series is a decent short 90s shooter that you can play with friends. Some achievements seem to be a pain.
