Punch Club looks simple at first. Train. Work. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. I thought it was just a boxing game, but half the time I was checking if my guy had enough energy to survive the next training session without passing out. Sometimes that annoyed me because I wanted to fight, not manage groceries. But then I'd say one more day. One more training cycle. And suddenly it's 2 a.m. It's more life sim than fighter and that won't be for everyone. It's not perfect either and sometimes it really feels like the game is wasting your time a bit, but somehow that loop keeps pulling you back in.

Very fun and nostalgic however key mechanics like stat decay need better information this is a game that just about is doable without a wiki or look up. I also hate roy car progress as it can never be fixed but it is not stated.

Been playing the same file since 2016, been fun to come back to play a little each time. The references are abundant and funny. Quick time killer 8/10 (gets grindy)

Liked the pacing of the game and all the different builds you can go for… until you get stuck in a work-train-fight cycle where, while working, you lose most of your attribute points, just to regain them at the gym. The pacing gets a lot better later in the game. The game would be much more enjoyable if you lost just a tiny bit less at the end of each day. I would strongly discourage new players from choosing the hardcore difficulty.

What is this game? "Punch Club" is an auto battler/time management game - that's all about growing stronger as a fighter, and to eventually become the world champion. This in a setting full of 80s, 90s combat, movie, game, and show references. Price/replay value Horrible - Bad - Decent - Good - Amazing Achievement hunting The large majority of achievements are story based and thus unmissable. A few are regarding the good/bad guy route however. A few fairly challenging ones like "Triple B", hardcore, and 100 days, can be difficult if you don't know the game that well. A strength based build generally renders these quite easy with proper time management though. Pros/cons Pros [*]Great build variety [*]Tons of references for fans of fighting games/movies [*]Humorous Cons [*]Unskippable "cutscenes" and dialogue [*]Stat decay is tedious [*]Fights can be fairly rng heavy Overall opinion I quite thoroughly enjoyed playing and completing this game. The 3 main builds (tiger, bear, turtle) have great variety and play extremely differently, making for quite good replay value. Some dialogue definitely got a laugh out of me as well. The only real "ick" I had when playing fresh runs was the forced Dark Fist moments as sometimes you'll be low on HP from a previous fight, return home, and then have to fight a very strong opponent (usually making you lose). Besides that there weren't many annoying parts besides training being repetitive. One major issue I had with this game though (apparently resolved in the sequel though) - is that your stats decay by 9 points per level at the end of every day. There's no way to change this besides "game reviewer" difficulty, which disables achievements. Whilst incredibly annoying, it can definitely be negated by training efficiency buffs. A minor complaint would also be the rng of some fights (especially prevalent with strength builds) - where you can either miss 8 hits in a row, or KO the opponent round 1. (Force close scumming does "fix" this if you need the extra days.) tldr; Good replayability - mildly annoying at times. Should you buy it? Yes.
