wow just wow this is a amazing game. not fully done but it is still fun. you can make insanely advanced dungeons. or a simple short dungeon. this game should be way way way more well known. 1.0 will hopefully bring more players. one of the devs named juice is very active too. the game is amazing I do recommend this game.

Quest Master is a great Zelda-like dungeon-building game that feels wonderfully reminiscent of Zelda: The Minish Cap. Its pixel art, clever mechanics, and intuitive creator tools make crafting and exploring dungeons equally fun. A must-play for fans of classic top-down Zelda adventures who’ve always wanted to design their own.

This is a game I've hoped to see from Nintendo for some time: given they're clearly slacking on a good idea, I'm all too happy to put that money toward an indie developer instead. For anyone that wanted a Zelda Maker in the vein of Mario Maker, this is that: and it succeeds at it in a way that is remarkable for an indie developer. Even in early access, the game has a strong amount of variety with available tilesets (8 different styles of dungeon: (Forest, Fire, Desert, Water, Ice, Wind, Spooky and Lightning). Among the potential options of toys for puzzles you can play with: blocks, pressure plates, adjustable water levels, conveyor belts, toggleable red/blue barricades, teleporters, light & darkness, and even things like invisibility (for you troll level sickos). And that's just scratching the surface; you know how you can combine certain things on Mario maker to achieve some unique results? You can make it so the resident wizard boss summons bats instead of his usual magic orbs. Things work in service to the player's creativity. Now while I have hit a couple of bugs in my adventures, the developers are actively working on their title and are listening to feedback and engaging with the community. The passion is very much here and I know Quest Master needs more attention than it is presently getting. So whether you want to cook up some devious labyrinth or just want to see what this community is putting out there: I definitely encourage you to give it a try.

I really love how fun it is to go back and forth from making your own dungeons, to playing someone else's dungeon, finding out they've done something in their dungeon that you didn't know about, and then going back to try and implement what they did in your dungeon in your own way

Early Access Impressions I'm usually wary of Early Access titles, since some of them can linger there indefinitely without clear signs of progress, and end up feeling more like half-baked demos than unfinished products that just need a bit more time. Even before I bought it, Quest Master impressed me with its track record of updates, a passionate developer, and a solid amount of content visible in the store page screenshots and videos. The game looked like it was already in good shape—and ready to be played. A Ton of Content to Play The game is fantastic. There's already a ton of user-created dungeons uploaded to mod.io, and an active community creating new ones daily. At the time of writing, mod.io lists over 4800 dungeons for Quest Master. For players who just want to play, that means there's a huge amount of content ready to go. You need an online connection to browse and play dungeons online, but you can also download dungeons you like and play them offline without any issues. The game also has some mini-games, which can unlock things like rings and pets. Rings are a type of equipment that give small bonuses, and pets, raised from eggs, can follow you around. Some dungeons may restrict the use of rings or provide them inside the dungeon. Pets can also be used as NPCs. Powerful Maker Tools For players interested in creating their own dungeons, the game has a very flexible and powerful maker mode. It works well on both controller (including Steam Deck) and keyboard/mouse. That said, there are a few quirks worth noting. As of now, there's no controller equivalent for RMB actions, and zooming in/out with a mouse is still very slow (something that's been around since the switch to Universal Render Pipeline in version 0.11.11). The most annoying issue on controller is that changing properties of a dungeon part (like switching between variations) resets the selection to the first item in a tab, instead of keeping it on the same one. This makes it a bit tedious to scroll through triggers and conditions among other things. It would feel a lot better if the selection just stayed where it was. Also, switching variations can only be done in one direction on controller, whereas with a mouse you can go both ways. There are many dungeon parts to work with, and currently eight dungeon themes: Dewdrop Roots, Sandswept Ruins, Gustwind Palace, Deepcoral Cove, Coldfang Grotto, Moonlight Brambles, Thundervolt Bastion, and Emberstone Quarry. Dungeons can have multiple rooms across multiple floors. Themes are assigned per floor and can be changed at any time. When you change it, the entire floor's visuals update instantly. There's no limit to the number of rooms, floors, or even the room size. Performance can take a hit with very large rooms and lots of interactable parts, but it handles pretty big builds without issues. If you've ever wanted to build a massive 100+ floor tower, or just a tiny single-room dungeon, you can. The maker mode feels intuitive and comes with tools to help build faster, like tile painting, selection, and copy/paste. The part book has multiple tabs: terrain, items, hazards, interactables, gizmos, and so on. There's already plenty of variety, and likely more to come. When dungeon parts are updated, versioning ensures older uploads won't break due to changes. Overall, maker mode is already in a great spot: few limitations, lots of parts, and easy to use. Final Thoughts and Recommendation A minor frustration for me is that new bugs occasionally appear with updates, and some take a bit longer to be addressed. That said, the game is still in Early Access, and the developer is actively balancing bug fixes alongside adding new content. Some bugs involve niche or unusual part interactions, and I imagine testing every possible combination would a huge ordeal. Still, I hope most of the current known issues are addressed before the 1.0 release. If you've ever been interested in maker-style games and wanted to create your own dungeons, Quest Master gives you the freedom and tools to bring your ideas to life. I've already spent far more time on it than I ever expected, and I feel like I'm still only scratching the surface. Despite the bugs, I can totally recommend the game.
