REPLACED is the kind of game that stays in your mind even after you stop playing. The pixel art is beautiful, but what really got me was the atmosphere and the feeling behind the story. There’s something deeply lonely and heartbreaking about this world, and the characters feel like they’re carrying pain they don’t always know how to express. It’s not just about surviving or fighting your way forward. It’s about identity, loss, humanity, and trying to find meaning in a world that feels completely broken. Some moments hit harder than I expected, and the music and visuals make those moments even more emotional. I honestly found myself thinking about the story long after putting the game down. REPLACED reminded me that a game doesn’t need realistic graphics to make you feel something real. Sometimes a few pixels, a powerful soundtrack, and a good story are enough to break your heart. Beautiful, painful, and unforgettable.
REPLACED feels like a game of wasted potential. The developers clearly wanted to create a striking visual experience... And oh my they delivered!! The 2.5D pixel art is gorgeous, the atmosphere is captivating, and there are lots of cinematic tricks that look impressive. The combat also shows a lot of promise, but it never fully evolves. It starts strong, yet becomes too simple and repetitive long before the credits roll. Even the boss fights go easy and pretty straightforward. There are some platforming sections, a few puzzles, and loads of collectibles scattered throughout the world, although I ran into a couple of annoying bugs while trying to collect them. My biggest disappointment, however, was the story. It feels like the game was built around its visuals first, with the narrative added afterward. The setting is a fairly generic cyberpunk dystopia filled with an evil corporation and a rogue supercomputer, but it never goes beyond familiar tropes. The plot lacks emotional weight, the characters remain underdeveloped and I never found myself truly invested in their journey. Even the side quests felt more like excuses to send me to different corners of the map. It all felt surprisingly shallow. REPLACED is still a good game, and I don't regret playing it. I just wish the writing had received the same level of care as the visuals. It could have been so much better, something truly special. As it stands, it is a good way to spend a couple of evenings, but probably not a game I'll ever revisit. I'd recommend picking it up during a sale with a decent discount.
I am a massive fan of pixel art style games and when I saw REPLACED, I bought it as soon as I could. The whole concept of the game captivated me and game me major "UPGRADE" and "BLADERUNNER" vibes. I couldn't wait to play it! Sadly, I was swamped with other games at the time so it took me a while to get round to REPLACED and after playing it... what an amazing experience this game truly was. I am so sorry it took me so long to get round to it. I haven't been this engrossed into a game for a long time, it's that good. Kept me hooked from start to finish. The story... oh man the story was excellent (more on this below). ⚫(SPOILER FREE) The story of REPLACED has you following an AI that is trapped inside of a human body - R.E.A.C.H. Not only was this interesting in it's own, watching the AI learn what it is to be human... a question got raised while playing and that was "What does it mean to be human" and oh man... this really made me feel for the AI. This cinematic story really outshines all these AAA(A) games. ⚫The soundtrack is drop dead gorgeous. I instantly bought it on steam after finishing the game. I fell in love with a few songs, what can I say... I love the soundtrack for REPLACED!!! ⚫The combat was just fantastic! How fluent the attacks are. Being able to attack an enemy to build up gun charge (to shoot back), then instantly able to deflect rounds into a dodge... oh my goodness. I had so much fun! ⚫REPLACED has some gorgeous visuals that are just picture-postcard worthy. Absolutely stunning to the eyes! (I'm mentioning this because I love it when developers care about their stories, their worlds and characters). ⚫Optimisation/bugs? The game didn't crash on me at all, no FPS drops, no stuttering. Nothing. For me, the game was optimised well. Bug wise? I didn't encounter a single bug myself. For my entire 10 (almost 11 hours) not a single issue. (I know Sad Cat released multiple patches since the game came out fixing issues) ⚫For £16.99 (or on sale £13.59) you definitely get your money's worth. The story is 10 (ish) hours long and pacts a punch. Least your not spending £70+ for a buggy, broken, unoptimised sloppy game. What I disliked/Cons ⚫N/A - I loved this game! My Verdict/TL;DR REPLACED is arguably my favourite 2.5D pixel art style game. It gave me major Bladerunner and Upgrade vibes. The story had me hooked from start to finish. The game looked stunning... like... absolutely stunning. The combat had me hooked also with how fluent it was! I didn't have any issues playing this at all. Sad Cat Studios, I commend you for all your hard work and for delivering a truly remarkable, visually stunning and optimised game! REPLACED is amazing and I need more! honestly first of all i was expecting this game to be so repetitive after a while. but man i was wrong, replaced suprised me big time. the game is so diverse and has tons of cool ideas, even though its simple but it gives u real fun. ngl its been a hot min since i enjoyed a game from this genre. a game thats simple but hooks u with its beautiful world, amazing plot twist, and those mysterious characters. and imagine all of this in a 2.5d game! the pixel art and that cyberpunk vibe is just insane, and the combat feels heavy and tight even with simple controls. if u havent played it yet u should def check it out.
