Not sure how this ended up in my library (probably from a bundle or sale ages ago), but I finally gave it a try. It’s a solid shoot ’em up with pretty decent gameplay and soundtrack. There are air, land, and sea enemies, plus a progression system where you earn scrap to unlock new weapons, perks, and upgrades. Nothing groundbreaking, but it’s a good way to kill a few hours.

Revolution Ace, developed and published by Laser Guided Games, is a top-down shoot ’em up that attempts to modernize the genre by fusing traditional arcade action with RPG-style progression. At its core, it follows the familiar template of piloting a heavily armed ship through vertically scrolling levels packed with enemies, projectiles, and environmental hazards. What sets it apart is its ambition to give the player more control over long-term growth and customization, introducing a system of upgrades, experience points, and unlockable weapons that goes beyond the usual temporary power-ups associated with older arcade shooters. The main hook of the game is its dual-plane combat system. Enemies don’t simply come from the skies—ground and sea units also appear, requiring specific weapon types to destroy them. This forces you to carefully plan your loadout before each mission, balancing weapons that can handle air threats with those that target surface enemies. As you progress, you earn scrap and experience that allow you to invest in better gear, stronger shields, elemental attacks, and devastating superweapons. The system creates a sense of steady progression and experimentation, as different combinations of weapons and abilities can make certain encounters more manageable. Combat itself can feel satisfying thanks to the variety of tools at your disposal, but the reliance on progression systems can sometimes overshadow the importance of raw skill. Unlike classic shooters where player reflexes and pattern recognition are the keys to survival, Revolution Ace often leans on how upgraded your ship is rather than how sharp your reactions are. This can result in difficulty spikes that feel tied to grind rather than strategy, and at times it undermines the immediate intensity that makes the genre so addictive. On the flip side, when you do unlock new weapons and use them to tear through previously overwhelming encounters, the payoff is undeniably rewarding. The campaign spans more than twenty missions, offering a mix of environments and enemy compositions. There are also additional modes such as skirmishes and versus battles, including an asynchronous “Battle Chain” mode where you can take on the performance of other players. Unfortunately, the multiplayer component has largely faded, leaving these features underutilized. The single-player campaign, while lengthy enough to justify a run, does eventually lean into repetition as enemy types and attack patterns start to recycle, with the sense of novelty coming more from your upgraded arsenal than from inventive stage design. Visually, the game is functional rather than flashy. The environments, enemies, and effects are clear enough to keep the action readable, but they lack the level of polish or artistic style that makes the best shooters stand out. The physics-driven touches, like ships sinking realistically or terrain reacting to explosions, add some immersion, but overall the presentation feels modest. Audio design follows a similar trend: it delivers the necessary cues and energy but rarely elevates the experience beyond the basics. While the game doesn’t dazzle with aesthetics, it maintains clarity, which is important in a genre that thrives on hectic on-screen activity. Reception to Revolution Ace has been mixed. Many players appreciate the customization and progression, enjoying the blend of arcade action with light RPG mechanics. Others, however, find that the reliance on upgrades diminishes the purity of the shoot ’em up formula and makes some sections feel more grind-heavy than skill-based. Stability issues and occasional bugs have also been reported, though these vary depending on system setups. For those who enjoy tinkering with builds and experimenting with different playstyles, the game offers more depth than the average shooter, but it doesn’t always achieve the polish or variety to keep every player hooked from beginning to end. In the end, Revolution Ace stands as an interesting hybrid experiment. It tries to bring the classic vertical shooter into a modern framework by giving players more ownership of progression and tactics. While this ambition sometimes clashes with the immediacy of arcade design, it provides a unique alternative for fans of the genre who want something more than memorizing patterns and dodging endless bullet curtains. It may not achieve the refinement of genre standouts, but it offers a respectable mix of strategy and action that can satisfy those looking for a fresh twist on a familiar style. Rating: 7/10

I'm sure 99% of people don't read the reviews. So you may not know that Naruto can be a bit harsh sometimes. You may not know this, but Naruto also grew up without a father. In fact, he never met either of his parents and never had any friends.
