This is a very 7 out of 10 tool for building vocabulary. If you know absolutely nothing, this will hold your hand and teach you how to think about this language, which is great. But for anybody who has some knowledge, this is probably not going to help you as much. The reason for this is that the vocabulary is a little on the beginner side. You really have to look around awhile to find things that are unusual or that aren't just borrowed English words, though those are good to know also. It'd be nice if there were about 5 or 10 areas the same size as the one the game takes place in where you could explore and learn more unusual words. The in-game lessons and flash cards are also very helpful. It's very cool that you can click on blocks of text and have them read out to you to get immersed in Kanji also. The one additional feature that's kind of obviously missing is a few NPCs here and there who you could discuss things with, so you could hear and practice grammar. Maybe a little translator pal could pop up and notify you if you didn't quite understand or respond to something correctly and help you out. All in all, if it's on sale, I would say pick it up. Especially if you don't know that much or need a refresher.

Good for beginners. I often forget the words for certain geographical locations/establishments, so I thought I might give this game a try. The vocabulary is mostly stuff you'd already know (around 30/140 words are loan words), unless if you started learning Japanese a week before buying the game. Although the idea is really well executed and the game is very beautiful. I would definitely buy an expansion that hosts more niche vocabulary like Kyoto or a Forest/Nature level for example.

It's a cute game but I had been hoping that there are plans to expand the game, since as it is right now, does not feel like a complete experience. It's a very small sandbox, which, while beautiful, will still feel very 狭い after a short time. If you're already learning Japanese, it's a cute game to help you cement a few hundred words in total, and a very easy 100% completion if you're someone that likes doing that. tl;dr - nice game to augment pre-existing efforts when learning the language, but I wish it was bigger.

Overall enjoying and recommend, but not without qualms. First off, I view this more as a fun tool for memorizing vocabulary, primarily for listening and also to practice reading hiragana + katakana. (Personally I don't care that the game is throwing fairly complex kanji at you bc personally, I don't think you can learn kanji without physically writing it yourself. Just my opinion.) Nice visuals, cozy vibe, nice music, it's surprisingly relaxing and I find the time going by quickly while I play. If you enjoy cozy games and/or Pokemon Snap, you'll enjoy this. The camera filters are a really nice addition as well. Now my issues...like many others, the area feels a little small...hope they add more. I will say it is densely packed though, does not feel sparse. However, it's WHAT the area is filled with that leads to my biggest issue with the game: TOO MANY LOANWORDS! To those saying the game is "too difficult for beginners" huh, are you serious?? It's too easy, because too much of the vocabulary is wasted on loan words that didn't require an explanation in the first place. Forgive me but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that γƒˆγ‚€γƒ¬γƒƒγƒˆγƒšγƒΌγƒ‘γƒΌ means toilet paper! Only in this aspect, I do feel a bit cheated in terms of the price of the game. Despite that big complaint, I'm still enjoying and will use it. A helpful and relaxing study tool - as others have said, if you're already studying Japanese by other means. Some other small suggestions that could improve the game: -More things to purchase after you've bought all the filters - an idea, can we please purchase.... -...A way to move FASTER oh my GOD!! For endgame players PLEASE give us some ability to move faster. When I'm testing my memory with the find function, it takes FOREVER just to walk to the object you need to photograph. I'd gladly spend like 1k coins on this haha. -A small but really annoying tibit, being asked to photo ι›»θ»Š or ι£›θ‘Œζ©Ÿ is ....uggghhh SO ANNOYING when the object isn't there for the longest time, and you're just sitting around waiting. Please make them come by more often.
