Did I have fun with this game? Yes. Does that make it a good game? Not neccessarily. Pros: *Gorgeous design and breathtaking world *Brilliant level design, lots of interconnectivity and clever platforming sections. As a rule: if something kinda looks like it could maybe be a path somewhere? It's absolutely a path and there will be something at the end. *Lots of secrets to find *Solid game, I only encountered one glitch, and not a gamebreaking one *Memorable bosses, but simple enough to learn that it never gets frustrating Cons: *Severe, and I meand SEVERE, lack of enemy variety, you'll fight the same 5-6 dudes the entire game. *Basic combat. Functional, but uninteresting. If combat is what draws you into a game this is not for you. Get this game for the exploration aspect, the experience of hanging out in this world for a bit and learn its secrets.

Fun game, if you’re a souls veteran then this will be a nice relaxing souls like to get you to the next Fromsoft release. It needs a bit of polishing with the environment (there’s a lot of places where you get stuck and have to warp out of) and there some QoL changes that could make the gameplay better like being able to sort your inventory and having clearer descriptions of items and there uses (bit tricky to understand in early game); also having names on the pictures when using the warp gates because by the endgame you forget what picture is where. The game is aesthetically beautiful though and the musical score is incredible. Is there a way to purchase the music? It’s so good!!

TL;DR: If you have ever wonder what was beyond the grassy hills background in old Windows, or in the glowy buildings in Tron, you will love this. If you enjoy exploring and trying to break games, this is a must If you are going to compare it to Elden Ring… Probably wont like it I think this is an amazing game. I think it is everything people complain triple A games lack nowadays. It has a soul to it, each level is beautifully crafted by someone with a passion for these games. Exploration and going “out of bounds”, goat hopping like you are trying to climb to High Hrothgar, clever pathing and skipping sections… It is all acknowledged by the game, and very often reward. Cyberpunk devs patted themselves in the back endlessly for that little message on top of a building. While in shattered I will keep trying to break the game only to be greeted by items and lore in places I thought were unreachable. The game looks beautiful, and it brings back that desire to explore, to truly enjoy the open world, without ruining it by having a narrow path you have to follow, and locking all the interesting stuff behind close doors. Almost everything in Shattered is accesible from the start. The gameplay feels inspired to me, they clearly did not have the capacity for quantity (see the infamous weapon moveset reviews), but they made up for it in quality. The game switches from 3d to 2d from time to time on key locations, which to me keeps gameplay fresh, alternating souls combat, with gimmick fights, parkour, and even a weird Rainbow Road racing course? It just drips with passion and love for gamemaking And the lore… The writing is stellar, intriguing, reminiscent of other souls while also having its own clear identity, instead of re-skinned Gwyn and Capra Demon. Thank you to the developers, you are a gift to the industry, and deserve better than having your game compared with titles that had 20 years of development with 50000 employees working on soulless content.

Overall Review, plus how I found this game (skip this section if you just want to know details about this game) So, I discovered this game by accident (kinda), when going through list of all soulslikes to know how many games it would take to beat each and every one of them. I usually get to games because I like their soundtrack, so I was listening to soundtracks of all the 39 soulslikes (I didn't count the souls/metroidvanias and souls/roguelikes), and couldn't find soundtrack for this one, except a 20 second passage of menu theme, so I decided to buy the game to listen to it in its entirety. Yes, I bought this game to hear the menu theme. I don't know what my past self was thinking, but at the same time, I'm glad I bought this game, because after overcoming the initial confusion, I found myself in a beautifully built world. What also encouraged me to finish this game was seeing how little people actually got past the first boss. I wanted to pay respect to the dev team by being one of those few who completed the game. And despite it being full of minor bugs, I grew to love this game, and is one of the few I will certainly return to 100% it. At the time of writing this I just finished my first playthrough, so I want to take a small rest from this game, and finish other games in my library. Overall I'd give this game a solid 7/10 for hitting that spot between my favorite genres of games - Soulslikes, Platformers and Exploration Positives and Negatives of this game Positives: - The strongest side of this game is definitely its visual. Especially the character sprites during dialogue, and the beautiful views in the world. Really, you could probably stop anywhere in the open-world section, rotate your camera a bit, and the screenshot would be a beautiful wallpaper - The worldbuilding and level design is also really strong - the game's world contains one big area, an open-world which you can peacefully explore, and sub-areas, which are more like traditional soulslike linear levels. The dev team really nailed the switching of those two types of levels, and thanks to it I never really got bored of exploration of this world - This game's lore is really well written, unfortunately it's kinda pain in the ass to look for it - As I mentioned earlier, this game's soundtrack is pretty good, especially the menu theme - None of the bosses felt unfair, and after I mastered parrying (and defeated one boss with only riposting) I felt like a god - There were no gamebreaking bugs, although minor bugs were present Negatives: - All weapons have the same moveset, except for one sword having different combo finisher (double slash instead of single slash) - While the bosses are fair and quite fun, most of them are extremely simple (really, the only actually great, fun and relatively challenging bosses were Demiurges, and there is only 3 of them) - The NPC quests are pain in the ass - NPCs don't even give you hints to their next location so you just have to hope you will find them alongside your path (even the one Steam guide won't help sometimes, because the creator got some locations wrong. After I finish all the questlines I will probably make guide to the questlines myself) - Basic enemies are either the easiest thing in history, or more bullshit than Blighttown Hope this review helped you choosing whether to buy this game or not, but I myself would really recommend buying this hidden gem, even if just on sale, and supporting the devs
