one of my childhood favorites. this HD version includes several additions that improve upon the original release, and despite its age, it's still very playable on modern computers my main concern is the screen resolution. the game was initially designed with resolutions up to 1080p in mind, and while 1440p is supported, it can occasionally cause minor visual glitches in certain screens such as quests or uninhabited planets. however, the UI does not scale as i expected in the HD version aside from that, the game holds up surprisingly well and remains a unique role-playing game
For people which never played any game in the series: Game is a turn-based aRPG in 2d environment, with optional arcade hyperspace fights (couple are plot-related), optional real-time strategical battles, and optional text quests, which differ from linear and easy to roguelikes and turn-based strategies (prepare pen&paper!). Most of the time you would spend in the space with the hand on the "Space" while looking for fight or carrying loot. Fights also would look for you - pirates sniff for weaknesses like leaving weapon on the planet to pick up more goods, dominators simply want to kill everything, civilians can remember that "Hey, you robbed me ten years ago! Now die!", and planets can send battle fleet against you if you decide to sell narcotics or weapon in bulk. Difficulty ranges from "sleep on end turn key and win" to "I'm still alive? wow" This series was made by gamers for gamers, I recommend to play it.
I recommend this game and i have well over 1k hours if you include time i spent in Space Rangers 2 which was basically the same game just before the remaster came around. BUT They seriously need to show English language more love. Half of my game is in russian for some reason. And sure, i can navigate planet battles just fine but there is plenty of places where i get russian language instead of english localisation. You can imagine this being quite a pickle for someone who doesn't speak russian language. So be aware of that issue. It's usually secondary stuff that doesn't reflect on main story but you can expect that to happen in areas of game where you can expect less oversight from devs.
