While I do recommend this, I recommend it loosely. Spirited Away fans will find lovable aspects to this game, but compared to other games of its genre, it's highly frustrating. Truthfully, I really like this game when I don't hate it. Unfortunately, it has a lot of issues. Here's everything wrong with it that I've found so far... Everything is pointlessly vague. This results in constantly Googling how systems work or what to do next. You practically need fan-made guides, especially for the bathhouse seating arrangements. The bag system is a clunky mess. The controls are unclear and unlabeled, resulting in accidentally dropping items on the floor or almost consuming them instead of putting them away. There's a bento box that shows your stamina, but the game never tells you this. Worse, there's a second, completely hidden energy meter that's based on your sleep. Once the game warns that you're exhausted (due to lack of sleep, but again, it won't tell you this), only then will you start to notice your bento box blinking red and depleting at a rapid rate. It's stupidly vague and unlike any stamina system I've ever seen before. The music is quiet, loopy, and repetitive. The sound effects are equally irritating, featuring constant gongs, loud menu navigation alerts, and an annoying owl hooting on the sleep summary screen. Poor sound design completely kills cozy vibes for me. I don't even play with the sound on anymore. Every time your spirituality increases, the game forces a long, unskippable cutscene. Additionally, when the clock strikes midnight, a title card covers the whole screen. This completely breaks your groove when you’re in the middle of managing a busy bathhouse. The characters lack depth and look very same-y. The game advertises a "strictly platonic" relationship system, which I am all for. But in reality, NPCs constantly tease you, hit on you, or ask if you're hitting on them. For asexual/aromantic players expecting a truly platonic experience, it feels tacky and awkward. If there's no dating in the game, I don't feel that the characters should flirt with you. It serves no purpose. Outside of the bathhouse, everything feels lackluster. Worst of all, the karaoke minigame is completely broken. It’s not a rhythm game like you'd expect, and the only way to win is to literally spam every button since there's no penalty for doing so. ❕ Major Warning for New Players ❕ Don't sell anything! For some baffling reason, the developers made important, one-of-a-kind items sellable. If you accidentally sell an item you need for a future shrine quest, you can permanently ruin your save file, forcing you to start the whole game over. Luckily, you will make the most money in the bathhouse, so you never really have to sell items. Regardless, I find this to be an unforgivable game design flaw, as I absolutely hate having to hold on to everything and deal with a cluttered inventory. My biggest disappointment is with the development team. They have publicly stated they are moving on to other projects and do not plan to release further updates or patches. The game still has many well-known, game-breaking bugs, and leaving it in this state feels incredibly disrespectful to fans. If you are expecting the years of endless love, updates, added features, and overall support that someone like Eric Barone gives to Stardew Valley, you will need to severely lower your expectations. If you love cozy shop managers or the Studio Ghibli aesthetic, you will find something to love here. Just be prepared for its flaws, buy it only when it's on sale, and don't expect a polished experience or a team that cares.

Steam Deck Review This game runs really well on the deck, perfect little cozy game to play handheld. With the recent 2.0 update, this game is as good as it gets. Plenty of stuff to do, I’m only 7 hours or so in and I can tell this is going to be a slow burn. Making money in the game and upgrading things takes time which normally I don’t like in games but the setting and music in this game makes it an exception. The bathhouse is where the core of the game takes place, at least for me. There’s plenty of other things to do in town like fishing, bug catching, spirit hunts, riddles, talking and exploring with the locals but the bathhouse is my favourite space. The bathhouse is my cozy comfort game, where you look after tired spirits by giving them a hot bath, an occasional scrub, and partner them with other spirits. You have to keep the waters nice and hot by stoking the fire and making sure you clean the towels as well as the dirt that’s around the bathhouse. As you can see there’s lots to do in the actual bathhouse, a 7am to 10pm (in-game) job that takes my full attention leaving me no time to do other things in town. I could just take a day off on Sunday (or any day) but those restless spirits need pampering. All in all a great game, highly recommend.

I find this game very comforting, quite a bit of content, nice music and animation. DLC is worth it too otherwise I would be so lost without it.

The reviews that this game is like spirited away meets stardew valley feel pretty accurate in terms of vibe (not gameplay) but without a lot of the mechanics that honestly make stardew too much of a chore & really boring to me. This game isn't super long, but considering the dev I think its well worth being patient for updates & it clearly has a lot of love put into it. I love the characters & connected to them way more than i ever did with any stardew characters. I know some reviews said they were shallow, but thats honestly how i felt about stardew characters & like these ones a lot more instead, so that might just be a personal preference thing. I also love the puzzles of figuring out all the spirits, the charm of the town, & some of interactions between your character & the townsfolk/spirits has some really great emotional weight. The minigames are all pretty fun too- the fact that your friends in town can "help" you too really makes it feel like less of a chore. I really recommend you give the game a try if it at all looks appealing to you, and hey- you can always try the demo first :)

Cute game! Not much like Stardew, despite what others have been saying, aside from the graphics and "befriend the village" aspects. Overall this is a fun little game for when I am watching something in the background, as certain aspects tend to be a little grind-y (like running the bathhouse). My chief complaint is the time-stamina mechanic. If I still have the vast majority of my stamina left prior to being "very tired", there is no reason that I should be passing out before I reach home. I totally get that you want to have the game respect the fact that we as humans have stamina while the spirits do not, but it is extremely annoying to deal with. My suggestion would be to only have the stamina go down quickly when stamina would normally be consumed otherwise (like running) and when walking or doing nothing, have stamina go down the same speed as running typically causes.. I would also LOVE a garden aspect to this game!! That's the only thing I miss from other management-type games like Stardew. Loved the nod to Eric, btw! I am sure he would love it as well!
