Yes, the save system is garbage and needs to be fixed. That said, I can't believe a game like this got licensed and made. It's so much fun to go through Voyager trying to survive the Delta quadrant. Making decisions Janeway couldn't is fun, opposing her is better, but being in the context of perilous survival and realizing I would have made the same choice she did hits hard. Absolute must play for any Voyager fan.

Very cool game as a Star Trek fan. Keep in mind you're in for an indie production here, so maybe it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a higher budget title, but I think the gameplay loop does a good job providing a classic Star Trek experience. My big complaint is no manual save. I made the unfortunate assumption that the lack of manual save meant that the game consistently autosaved, and upon exiting, I lost about a half hour of play time. Devs, please either ensure that the game is autosaving every cycle, or give us the ability to save manually. Players need the ability to put the game down on their own time. Update: A few more hours in, and I do want to reiterate that I am very much liking the game. I absolutely love how they have managed to include every facet of what I consider to be a quintessential Star Trek experience (exploration, diplomacy, away missions, tough Captain's decisions, space battles, etc). As far as the save game issue, I still stand by my initial assessment, although I do understand that this is likely an intentional design choice in order to force players to live with the outcomes of their decisions, which I do agree is the right choice for this game. However, I do believe it is just imperative that they add a "Save and Exit" feature so that players can end their play session on their own terms.

Star Trek Voyager was the first show I watched when I was a kid, it is what I was introduced to. When I booted into the main menu and heard the theme song, I was hit by a wave of nostalgia, I just sat and listened to it for a few minutes. It’s really nice to play a modern Star Trek game that isn't built for mobile or filled with $50 microtransactions for a new ship, it feels like a real game and you can tell the developers tried to put their heart in it. The What If? scenarios are really nicely done. My only real problem is the lack of full voice acting, which I understand the lack of, I do hope they add more in future updates to truly bring the crew to life. The biggest issue in general is the lack of saving, the autosaves are kind of sporadic but it was intentionally done to avoid people save scumming because of bad RNG, which is understandable but it does alienate a large portion of the user base of older adults who need to stop at a moments notice. The developers, however, are working on changing the saving to be more friendly to the players, it might be a while though to implement it. It has it's rough edges and it's by no means perfect but I am really looking forward to playing this and see what they do with it in the future. It runs pretty fantastically on the Steam Deck, Built in controller support, My game did freeze up while placing a room though which made me lose a few minutes of progress. Turns out if you try to move your cursor while placing the room it freezes and you can only open the menus then restart. Also, Janeway did not do anything wrong, Tuvix wasn't a person. Edit: After playing it for an hour, I understand the lack of voice acting, with the myriad of different pathes and alternate decisions, I think voice acting everything would be expensive to say the least. Though it would be nice to have occasional voice lines put in, other than Paris's cutscene at the beginning.

As a fan of Voyager, this game rocks. BUT know what you're getting: -A chance to "do it your way" if you were in a star trek episode -Decent depth and engaging gameplay What you're NOT getting: -Any real voice acting for quests -Trek music outside the main menu -Open exploration or true branching quests -A fully fair experience (TLDR: unfair hidden timers, UI is missing information to let you make informed choices, and RNG is far too central to the game's difficulty and tension) Do I recommend the game? Yes, because at its core it's fun, the issues aren't catastrophic, and it's clearly made with passion and care. Is it a world-beating RPG? No. If you're not a fan of Star Trek Voyager, should you buy the game? Probably yes but it takes the game from a "hell yeah" to a "sure if it seems cool".

I made it 60% of the way through the game before I understood that I was on a slow death spiral there was no recovering from and gave that run up. Not bad for a first attempt. The resource issues and hull damage mechanics are pretty brutal, giving you a real Year of Hell vibe. By early Season 3 voyager, most of my crew was still in emergency quarters and I'd only just managed to get the ship self-sufficient on food. The ship was constantly running out of fuel. But I see what I'd do differently, and I'll give it another go. The mechanics are interesting on a basic level. XCOM1/2 style base building, complete with clearing wreckage for resources. Crew and power requirements, heroes to buff compartments. Combat does give you a certain degree of control in terms of targeting and abilities. I was most impressed by the varied outcomes and advantages from the optional side missions - I got a Viidian medical scanner from an early side mission that let me skip some checks in multiple missions, same with some Recombination tech that let me separate Tuvix without a risk. I even got to keep a version of Torres as a full Klingon who had an amazing stackable ability that kept upping the damage of Voyager's weapons in battle! Zooming in really lets you see the interior of the ship. The emergency quarters have lots of bunk beds, the crew quarters have a nice apartment room vibe, the phaser control room has the legendary Red Tube. You can tell in so many ways that this game is a labor of love for the developers. In terms of design, I'd say it's 80% resource management, 20% RPG. If you don't like reading or managing resource flow/usage, it's not the game for you. If you don't like making skill checks and tactical decisions about which characters to send on an away mission and how to juggle their different stats to your advantage in making those skill checks, it isn't for you. But I really do enjoy it, and of the friends who watched me stream in, 3 came away saying they were interested in picking the game up: including one who didn't know the game was coming out, and one who outright isn't a Trekkie. Sounds like an endorsement on its own strengths to me.
