First off I have waaaayyy more hours then stream is aware of. I play the HD version found online. But I got to leave a review for this masterpiece. It’s one of my favorite games I go back to it almost every year for a play through. It’s just that fun. So what exactly is it? Well your a general given a set number of tanks, infantry, and aircraft with a mission. There is no base building or building up resources. Just commanding your troops to typically destroy the enemy, hold and objective, or capture an area- and the game is brutally hard. Like you will lose a lot, the game can really drag. Some missions you really need to just slowly extend the frontline. Yet despite all this it’s just so much fun, it feels like you actually accomplished something. Over time if you play it as much as I have you remember where things are, what the enemy has and where they are placed. While this doesn’t make the game easier, but it makes it faster. It’s fantastic. Defense missions are some of my favorites, as they can be impossible or bare able depending on your strategy. If you set up just a single defensive line you are going to get crushed. This ai figures out where your heavy guns are at and you get shelled. You need to have a layer defense with some units just taking the roll of speed bumps to delay the enemy. Fantastic game.

You like it hard? You like it old school 2d? No building production - this is the game for you. Cons - damn enemy artillery shoots like an automatic turret, no indication where enemy vehicles can spawn from the edge of the map and no indication if you will get 10 or 10000 more people as reinforcements in that mission 9/10

Nostalgic for me Does not hold up well in 2024 but an extremely realistic game (with troop movement and war tactics) to an extent where even 'easy' can take you hours on a single mission

The beginning of my PC gaming career. The content and great game play from SSF. https://www.sudden-strike-maps.de/ still has all the maps. if you can get a few friend this game offers endless days of game play and MP fun. use that website and get all the OG content including mods etc. This will be forever the greatest PC game ever created. I miss CDV and the games they made. sure the graphics are early 2000s and its not detailed, but based on what it is, its incredible how detailed it is. knowing tactics and lots of trial and error to become good at this game. Long live SUDDEN STRIKE FOEVER! SS SSF SS2 were the greatest games i have ever played. i wish someone could find the source codes and let this be rebooted. even without a full immersable 3D environment, the MP play and SP play is incredible. Buy its for fun, Buy to support a legend. ffs its like $6 you i paid 39.99 and i ve probably bought 5 copies and still have the CD-roms and jewell cases! To my Life Long Friends ive made throughout this game, I still think about how we were connected globally over something joyful!
