So, I'm gonna recommend this and tell everyone I like it. And I do plan on playing the sequel, along with any other games from this studio that seems interesting to me. However, between you and me, this game is slightly disappointing to me. Not too much, ultimately I had a good time with the game, but admittedly it was not as strong as it seemed at first. However, before we get into all that negativity, lets focus on the positive stuff, the reasons you should buy this game if it seems interesting to you. As one of those small indie RPGMaker games with a slight focus on narrative over gameplay, it more or less checks all of the boxes: -Interesting art style that keeps you captivated throughout the entire game -Off-kilter story that almost immediately drags you into it and never lets up -Simple and easy-but-not-completely-braindead gameplay -Surreal sense of humor -All killer, no filler So yeah, if you've played something like OFF you should know what you're getting into here. Not really in terms of actual content but more or less the structure. Also, if you're wondering why I'm not really focusing on all this too much it's because I feel like I'd be repeating myself. I feel like I've already kinda talked about all this stuff in the past with other RPGMaker games. Besides, I feel like all of this stuff is better just experienced through the game rather than first through a review. But yeah, now that all of the positivity is out of the way, let me explain why this game wasn't fully amazing for me. Really, it has to do with this games sense of humor. When I came into this game I was expecting a more serious tone and playthrough. Not 100% serious, of course, but I was expecting something that took itself more seriously than I think this game does. Now, that may be an issue with my expectations, perhaps I should've read more about the steam page before buying, but either way this game is far more humorous than you might initially assume from getgo (if you had the same expectations I did). Most of the dialogue with NPCs is played for goofs, as is the architecture of the maps you visit and most of the story beats. On top of this there's a lot of visual gags and, of course, references . Oh boy. Now, this isn't bad in and of itself, as I think this is all done fairly well and thought that the vast majority of the game was pretty funny and fun to watch unfold. I don't really have any criticisms of the execution itself. However, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't wish the game took a darker approach to things, mostly because all of this feels at odds with the awesome hand-drawn visual style that always manages to look ominous and foreboding. Most of the time I was simply thinking that I'd probably be enjoying this a lot more if the tone matched the visuals more. And that's because I think the general idea of a world that literally runs off being a business is a legitimately interesting idea, and to the devs credit a lot of the ideas they put down do manage to fit the game and feel like either good worldbuilding, social commentary, or both. But it eternally feels undercut by most of the game being a comedy, unfortunately; either that or it just is never expanded upon, which is a shame. Though, to jump back into being a positive a bit, this isn't the worst thing ever, it's still generally good (but could be so much more). However, what did end up kinda getting on my nerves is the constant reference humor this game employs. It's not all the time and it's not always in your face, but man it feels like there's at least one reference to another game/movie/media in every single room in this game. And similar to the games constantly comedic tone, this ultimately just feels like it undercuts the game, this time by constantly taking me out of it; worst of all though, most of the references are completely in your face, so it's hard to even ignore them when you do run into them. They're not horrible, and thankfully the devs have spent time actually making the references fit into the games' world, but either way it just got old after a while. So, yeah, I enjoyed this game, but not fully. It's a shame because again I really love the idea of the world and the art style, but it just never fully comes together for me, always hanging on the edge of turning into a favorite of mine. Instead, it just sits there, being simply a great game, and that just doesn't feel fully satisfying.

I love the really basic art style mixed with the weird humor. Definitely gets a little stale near the end. But for 1$, you really can't complain. My playtime was 20 hours, that's like 5 cents per hour of game play.

After seeing this game many times in hidden RPGM game videos, I decided to give it a shot. But if I’m being honest, I was disappointed. Suits: A Business RPG is a story- and battle-focused RPGM game made in 2016. With its hand-drawn art and capitalism-themed premise, it got me really interested at first. Let's start with the story without diving too much into it. Your character is assigned to work as a typical office worker. You decide your character's name and start with an introduction to the world. The world is a capitalist dystopia (if I say something really wrong, please correct me—I’m not familiar with this kind of theme). First, we have to graduate from business school. The game teaches the basics while throwing in some jokes, which were actually funny. After finishing school, we begin our harsh business journey. I have to mention, with a name like A Business RPG, I expected a lot of mechanics or gameplay related to business. It has some relation to the theme, but it's mostly just used as a setting for the game. Other than that, it's just a classic story- and combat-focused RPG. The gameplay is really okay. There are combat segments mainly focused on the dystopian story. The balancing is questionable, but I’ve played worse games. The art style is only great when the hand-drawn segments appear. Some of the enemy designs in battle look good. But the rest—especially the overworld environment and characters—look really bad. Many characters are just blank men in suits, and on the overworld, they look awful. But in the hand-drawn scenes, they actually look great. I feel like they made this design choice because they wanted to create some kind of mascot that would become popular (blank-faced, wearing a suit, looking intimidating—from the trailer, cutscenes, and sequel). Since I haven’t seen it become widely recognized, I guess it failed. Level designs are just okay. Nothing stands out. My biggest issue here is the interaction with the world. You can’t interact with any items from above, you can’t interact with some items because they are too close to each other, and only one of them has an interaction tile. This isn’t game-breaking, but it becomes really annoying after a while. The game's strongest aspects are its symbolism and jokes. There are some great symbolic elements that I have to praise. But for a casual player, it might be hard to understand what they mean. The jokes are mostly from the 2010s era, which some people might really like. There are also some reference jokes, but I think today’s players would probably just roll their eyes at them. The soundtrack is really interesting. It’s not something you would regularly listen to after finishing the game, but it really complements the atmosphere. Even some of the joke tracks are actually great. Some overworld soundtracks really enhance the game’s atmosphere. I probably mostly praised this game, but what I wrote above are its great points. The bad points are the same across all aspects of the game—bad polishing. Really awkward controls, not deep or well-balanced (just okayish) combat. The overworld art style and main story are just not that great. I assume this is the developer's first RPGM game. I’ve seen much worse games out there, but I don’t think this game deserves as much praise as it gets (looking at Steam reviews). There is a sequel that looks more polished. That being said, the game is really cheap. A really mediocre game, but with an interesting premise and lots of 2010s reference jokes. For those who like RPGM games, I recommend it—especially for those who are tired of horror, story, and puzzle-based RPGM games.
