Edit after release: What started out amazing, quickly lost its charm. Yes, the theming kept consistently great throughout the game. But... The amount of gameplay vs the story being told are at far different length to each other. The gameplay hadn't been extended in equal paces as the story, making the story feel overly lengthy and almost annoying. There are points in the story that introduce quite grindy requirements which, though can be skipped, have nothing much else to be filled out with. As the main gameplay loop - Accept naval contracts, clean up and fix ships, earn money, upgrade tools and skills has already run out. Money being useless. Skillpoints being useless. All upgrades unlocked. So with a 10/10 for the demo, and an empty 3/10 for the rest, I'd settle on a 5/10. Shame. ---- I love where this game is heading. Unlike the many cleaning/repair/job simulators out there, this one has something unique - Character. It has an amazing vibe. The creepy, occult atmosphere is everpresent. The story is gripping. The upgrades progression is rewarding. The game never once felt grindy. If anything, I wish it was complete already, so I could not only upgrade everything completely, but also get to the bottom of what tf is going on. For me, a 10/10. And no, there was no AI. I don't know what all the reviews are about. The demo perhaps. But not here. Please, don't abandon the game, Two Nomads. You have great potential in your hands!
The game is really fun, especially if you’re looking for something relaxing. You clean ships, and as you progress, the ships get bigger and more challenging. There’s also fishing, upgrading your stats and items, and uncovering secrets in the story. I really like how the game is built the story is very interesting, and I’m excited to see it fully completed. I definitely recommend it. If you’re not sure, maybe watch some gameplay first. Don’t always trust every negative review.
CAVEAT: WAIT UNTIL THE GAME HAS REACHED ITS FINAL FORM!! I had a blast playing this game for over 2 hours at first. Then the 0.5.0 update happened. When I logged in after that, I was standing on the water, unable to get back onto the dock. In the process of trying to get back onto dry land, I fell through the map and out into the abyss. I haven't yet tried to start a new game; I'm still mourning the loss of my old one. But for the two and a half hours before that, it was awesome!
This is a fun game, looking forward to getting into it. Great fun, good characters, and quite addictive, I'm very glad I bought this game. I need to stress that I do recommend buying this, what follows are mainly notes for developers! There are a couple of thing that need fixed (early access): - Hammering nails is a draining ordeal. Why is the hammer moving around so much? It's like doing drunk carpentry. It's very frustrating to have to simultaneously both line up the hammer (which is constantly moving) *and* get the right timing on the meter - I'd suggest just making the hammer a tiny bit less 'slippy'; or else, instead of a meter, have the nail circle itself cycle through the colours, so that you're only having to look in one place at least. - Getting on and off of ships that don't have a gangplank can be frustrating, and I have gotten stuck on horizontal floor-level panels before and had to keep pressing jump until I finally escape, so the movement needs a little work. - I'd suggest waiting until a customer is at the front of the line before they 'decide' what they want, or else let us fill partial orders. What's happening is that I get a queue of people, but on every one of their lists is an item I only have one of, meaning that instead of supplying them what I can, I'm serving the first customer and then having to send the others away; it feels like in real life the customer would just buy what they could, and not leave just because of one or two unavailable items. - It would be good if I could close and open the shop, and switch the fax machine on and off (except maybe in emergency cases) - they're constantly making noise and there is a limit to what you can do in a day, especially when you're looking after the much larger ships. Maybe these will be fixed, it's early days yet, and if they are I'll amend my review :)
