Game is good, only downside is the paywall to unlock new characters. Wasn't aware I was buying a second demo. Unlock extra heroes, with faster microtransactions, sure, but this just leaves a sour taste in a otherwise promising game. Plus, 20$ for a new hero is SO greedy.

It’s hard to even know where to start talking about the Bazaar, such is the level of dissonance I feel between how much I enjoy it and how reluctant I am to recommend it. To give the full picture, I almost have to talk about two different Bazaars; the game and the product. As a game, the Bazaar is a generational achievement, taking the core of an auto-battler but using roguelike and deckbuilder concepts to make each run dynamic and exciting, topping it off with an asynchronous multiplayer structure that keeps things challenging over time. It stands toe-to-toe with some of the all time greats in each of the genres it straddles and has almost endless replayability, multiplied by the updates the game receives semi-frequently that add, tweak and rebalance components. There are definitely flaws in the game and its updates, most consistently in the balancing and in QoL features, but even taking those into account, I rank the Bazaar in my personal top 10 and not in the bottom five. But as a product, the Bazaar is a colossal failure. This thing should really market itself given its strong concept, distinct aesthetic and everything I’ve already said about its gameplay. Instead, the marketing and monetisation of the Bazaar has been a parade of constant fumbles, each greedier than the last and all the more galling by how the devs have responded to community feedback; with bans. The full details of the story are exhausting to take in and have left much of the Bazaar community feeling resentful, mistrustful and unable to recommend the product without heavy caveats. Personally, I find myself preemptively apologising for or trying to excuse the microtransactions and lootboxes in a premium product, the $20 DLCs for each new character and the general vibe of avarice that clings to the Bazaar. I feel I must recommend this game because I love it, having 150ish hours on the independent Tempo launcher before it came to Steam and now having dropped nearly that again within a month of buying it here. Every time I construct a completely new build, discover a fresh synergy or put together an unlikely infinite, I’m reminded quite how much I adore this game. But I must also warn that the developers of this product have proved time and time again that they cannot be trusted to keep their word or prioritise long term viability over short term profits. Things on this front are probably as good as they have ever been right now, which hopefully lets you extrapolate quite how bad they have been over the product’s existence. Worth your time, undoubtedly, but maybe not worth your money.

Let me first start by saying: The vision of the game changed so much since they started in the beta. And that is as diplomatic as I can say it. I purchased the biggest founder’s pass (99€ + tax) back when this game was still in the closed beta. I really enjoyed it, even though I didn’t like some aspects of the game. For example: They hopped on the NFT-hype and the vision was, that you can sell every cosmetic item that you got from treasure chests at a later point (spoiler: That never happened. And with the death of the NFT-hype, this idea died). Also, I didn’t like that you only had a certain amount of free ranked matches per day. This was (thankfully) also dropped. What made me stop playing the game was when they realized that the current model was not working for them, and they didn’t make enough money (even though they sold founders packs for up to 99€ + tax). The game was still in beta at the time, mind you. They introduced paid item packs (which I considered somewhat P2W), a subscription model, a season pass and paid champions. The backlash was immense, but they still defended their business practices and kept on with it. Out of desperation or believe, I don’t know. I completely lost interest at that point and stopped playing completely. Even though, I enjoyed the game very much and played it daily. Fast-forward to now: They changed the business model again. Now all the card packs are removed, the season pass is free, and you can play unlimited ranked. The Pay2Play model is the best thing they could’ve done for the game. But they still did not have the decency to give out steam keys to founders. You would have to buy the base game for ~40€ (later changed to ~16€) and link your Tempo account, if you wanted to play on Steam. Additional heroes now cost ~16€/hero. This is the status quo, and I hoped that they would go this route from the beginning. But here we are. I lost all trust in Tempo. But I still got the game on Steam when I got the e-mail from them that it was discounted. And I started playing again. If you want to play this game, you should keep all of this in mind. While it is a VERY enjoyable game in its current form, with Tempo, things can change any time. I wouldn’t be surprised if they (at one point) try to switch back to the F2P model. But for now, it’s in the best form it ever was since the launch of the founder’s phase. And there is no other game like it. I tried many, but none of them scratched the Bazaar itch. There is just something so captivating about the whole game, from the art-style, to the gameplay to the heroes. So, enjoy it while they go the current road. But expect them to change the business model any time they feel that the game is not making enough money.

This is one of the only times I wish that I was able to give a game a neutral rating instead of a do/don't recommend. On one hand the gameplay itself is amazing, I have 600 hours or so on the launcher prior to steam and its an extremely unique and fun auto-battler (closest to something like backpack battles or super auto pets). It has an insane amount of polish and the art team for the game is phenomenal. You can play run after run after run and have a different build every time and have insane amounts of fun doing it with 800 different items spread across 5 heroes. On the other hand, the games management and financial decisions are extremely shady and seemingly not in the best interest of the consumer. From originally being a F2P game filled with NFTs with a player to player marketplace (both have now been abandoned thankfully) to now being the price of a AAA yearly CoD game if you buy all the playable heroes, this game has been flip-flopping all over the place in terms of their monetisation. I have bought many things with real money that became free to use later, likewise I have bought many things with in-game free currency that later became paid expansions. Please form your own opinions about this game, buy it and play a run or two and refund it if its not for you or the monetisation you see is not something you want to support. Watch some of the youtubers and streamers talk about the game and watch them play it. Ignore the probably hundred of clown reacts alot of the positive reviews are going to get, the monetisation is poor but the game itself is amazing and I cannot blame anyone for giving it a positive or negative review as both are extremely valid. TL:DR - The raw gameplay itself is amazing, unique and very replayable. The monetisation and pricing around it and the in-game content is very strange, predatory and changes constantly with time, take this as a precaution when buying things. Overall I DO recommend the game purely because the actual game is amazing, though I would rate it neutrally if I could due to the poor monetisation practices

WARNING: While the gameplay is top notch there are some considerations when playing this game, namely the communication and community support. Any neutral statement, constructive criticism, or disagreement with the developer's actions will be met with a ban in any of the public forums (Discord, Reddit, Steam). They have a track record of making sweeping changes to core functionality with little to no notice. It seems to me that they select the least consumer friendly option first and then are forced to backtrack due to the overwhelming responses they get from their players. They have broken promises made early in development and have dramatically changed portions of the game that people have already paid for. Balance is neither a goal nor a strength of the game and there will often be weeks or months long periods where broken items will dominate the meta. That being said, I bought in as a founder in early access and have been playing regularly since. I have put hundreds of hours into the game and have been "legend" at every time that was possible. The game has great visual polish, an addicting gameplay loop, infinite replayability and honestly it's just a lot of fun. If you can hold your nose and put up with all of the nonsense that comes from the game developer, the actual product is excellent.
