It's not memorable or revolutionary but it's fun enough to be worth a buy especially at that price. The tone reminded me of the Destroy All Humans series. Fairly short but the length felt right

Some games thrive on polish and seriousness; The Deadly Tower of Monsters thrives on the opposite. Developed by ACE Team, it’s a love letter to campy 1950s sci-fi B-movies: cardboard sets, rubber monsters and wobbly spaceships included. The twist? You’re not just playing the game, you’re “watching” it alongside the director’s commentary, which runs over the top like a DVD extra gone hilariously off the rails. The setup is simple: you control a trio of heroes climbing an absurdly tall tower filled with ray-gun-wielding aliens, mutant apes, dinosaurs and all manner of low budget threats. The action is straightforward hack-and-slash mixed with light platforming, but what keeps you hooked is the presentation. The director’s voiceover constantly breaks the fourth wall, poking fun at continuity errors, budget cuts and cheesy acting choices. It’s clever satire that makes even repetitive encounters feel fresh. Visually, the game commits hard to the joke. Enemies look deliberately fake, with stop-motion animations and visible “wires” holding up UFOs. Explosions are over-the-top and the tower itself feels like a stitched-together movie set. It’s camp done right, never mean-spirited, always affectionate toward the genre it’s parodying. On the gameplay side, it’s not revolutionary. Combat is serviceable but basic and climbing the tower can feel repetitive in spots. Yet the humor and creativity carry it and there are enough weapons, power-ups and set-piece moments to keep you entertained until the end. The pacing is brisk, never overstaying its welcome. What makes The Deadly Tower of Monsters special is its tone. It understands the joy of bad movies and turns that kitsch into an interactive celebration. If you grew up loving sci-fi pulp, or just want something lighthearted and different, this is a tower well worth climbing.

A nice but inoffensive pastiche of 50s American sci-fi movies with terrible 'retro' filters and repetitive gameplay balanced out by a hilarious narration and many welcome references. If you know what the poster is imitating, then chances are this is the game for you.

What a blast! While the gameplay is very simple, and not particularly challenging, the setting and the comedy are top notch. Very few games actually made me laugh, The Deadly Tower of Monsters is one.

(Reviewed on January 23rd 2017) One of the funniest games of 2016 thanks to the director narrator's fourth wall breaking that is always aware of whatever you're doing in the game, even down to spinning around (commented on twice!) in an idle manner. What started as an innocent and funny examination about spinning in videogames turns into a heart-wrenching story of love and loss. It's a cute retro sci fi romp through movie sets and a gorgeously designed tower. Now ACE Team, give me Zeno Clash 3!
