After playing the demo I was pleasantly surprised to find my save from it could be used for the full game so I was able to get through a whole playthrough. At first the game feels like a slightly more rpg-ish mount and blade with much simpler combat so I treated it like that. This was a terrible mistake that lead me to destroying the world. I went through and started bulldozing through other kingdoms to establish myself after building up my first city super strong and it was super easy. Then I realized how it was a terrible mistake to do so. All those wars made things really lopsided economically and raised global hatred. which in this game cause a lot of penalties and eventually destroy the world which happened shortly after I had gotten established. It was a really good first experience to find out maintaining a balance was actually fairly difficult and that just removing problematic kingdoms wont save you. If you don't carefully restore territory the economic disparity catches up to you very quick. Overall the game provides a fun new puzzle to manage while trying to rise to the top. towards the end it was a dangerous game of desperately trying to calm things down just enough to keep the world from collapsing until it just became too much and everything fell apart. I highly suggest trying the demo because for someone used to bannerlord or warband it may or may not be your cup of tea. the combat is very simplistic and there is a lot that needs to be done for QOL but it was a very fun experience that I can't wait to give another go. So try the demo and see if u like it and if u do good news you dont have to start over. Final note in case the devs see the review there needs to be a compendium with game mechanics its a bit difficult to learn when things are both drip fed to you mechanically and not super readily available. I still haven't discovered how to do many things like marriage for example I don't know if I can make use of the mechanic like the npcs can and I didn't know I could order my vassals like the king could until I accidentally clicked on it.

The game is fun and has a lot of potential. The combat is interesting, but way to easy to dominate the world. I would also like to see more depth in character relationships.

Beautiful, fun game. Still definitely needs end game content, and more ways to acquire land, but overall, a very fun game. I see the concept, I like the concept, let's hope the devs keep improving this game! For those on the fence, this game is very similar to Bannerlords and Kenshi.

The description makes it sound far more grand than it actually is, but the game is effectively a very obvious riff on the KOEI strategy games with officer play (eg. ROTK VII, VIII, X) with some other inspirations mixed in. An extremely tentative recommendation riding on the hope that the dev will add to the game in a meaningful way during EA and beyond. As it is the game is very rough and that the dev actually planned on making it a full release before the demo reception is...mindboggling. Some assorted impressions are as follows. The good: - The Collapse Graph is a cool gimmick that does shake up the KOEI formula by itself. The End of History™ is bound to happen within only a decade or less if you don't interfere or even faster if you do interfere thoughtlessly, so it really is going to factor in your decision-making. I'd only criticize it for happening rather fast atm and you not having many meaningful options to interact with it unless you're a a faction leader or a ruler. - Factions are a nice addition. They're like a mix between ROTK viceroys and Bannerlord's clans where you're effectively a mini-ruler to your own subfaction. They also add some internal politics aspect - they change sides, rebel and even get other factions to side with them. The meh: - Quests are incredibly basic, even what few hand-placed ones there are - including what passes for the 'main quest'. Which is all par of course for a KOEI game, but they're also worthless past the very early game since they generally don't give anything except very negligible amounts of money, town relationship and fame - all of which you'll be swimming in already. There are Discovery quests that are slightly more useful with giving your nation tech points, but not by much and the process of actually doing them is just not fun. NPC I prevented from committing suicide in one unique quest later popping up as an officer was about the only cool consequence I can recall. - Combat is somewhat improved over the demo, but not by much. There are only a few unit types (with the better part of them locked by technology at that) and while they do level up there's no M&B style upgrade system or anything. The only real tactical aspect in battles is flanking. The invidiual action combat is...just not good and isn't even basically engaging either beyond parrying with weird windows. It is kinda cool that running out of supplies is important and something that gives siege defenders a massive advantage, but it also hurts the pacing of the game when your AI ruler decides to keep throwing troops at failed sieges while the enemy is busy rolling you up elsewhere. - Characters and interactions with them are pretty much ROTK level depth-wise, which is kind of an issue when character drama is supposed to be a focus. There are some kinda interesting things in the background like a character's traits changing because of their experience (if only those traits had a noticeable impact...), them liking or hating particular cultures (which seems to play into Collapse Gauge) or an NPC in a blood feud with you getting their liege to declare war on your nation, but by and large you can only drink with them in a tavern to get their regard up and see the same lines over and over again. The Uria nationalist dream is just a single line, NPCs call their relatives turncoats despite actually being the one to change their side, lovers and spouses don't have any new options or even lines to say, etc. The bad: - The games 3d graphics are extremely barebones. All settlement types look the same (including the token Middle Eastern faction), *almost* all characters and units look exactly the same, etc. To add insult to injury, it all runs extremely bad for how it looks. - 'Be who you want' is just marketing speak. All the core systems only provide for your usual officer play progression. There are joinable traders and bandits as landless (at the start) factions, but they don't have any gameplay features and only really become legitimately playable once they join a nation - at which point they're completely identical to every other faction. - There's not much rhyme or reason to the events. Rulers spam wars that end as abruptly and quickly as they begin, officers change sides on a whim (often effectively cucking their spouse who stays where they were), people and places you've never met or been start hating you, etc. In one particularly egregious case, the poster girl with her faction of one (1) officer (herself) decided to randomly rebel against her own dad only to (the surprise of no one) get steamrolled on all sides an end up a loyal officer to her capturers. Overall a commendable effort by what appears to be a solo dev but needs a lot more work and fleshing out. Which is rather concerning with the dev's blogs giving the impression that considers the game pretty much feature complete as it is.
