Can I recommend this game? No(?) This game appears to embrace that which makes the best games great, 'easy to learn, hard to master.' There's clearly a well developed, well designed, well planned game here. As a matter of fact I would say that about 94.7% of the game is an easy slam dunk. No questions asked. The issue is the learning. It's... not great. I spent a good 20 to 40 minutes trying to figure out how to land. I actually deleted my save data and restarted (that wasn't a huge deal, I was barely into the game) thinking that I had missed something in the tutorial. Oh, My, Gosh, this was rough. Yes, I felt like an idiot for missing the big text on top, but that didn't appear until I had button mashed my way into 'success' a few times. Oh, and the fishing. I still don't know how to catch fish, and I passed the quest for it! That's...bad. Really bad. I get that nobody wants to have their 'hand held' for everything, but that's what optional tutorials are for! Hand holding! I shouldn't pass a quest by sheer dumb luck! Barring that, I should probably know how the mechanic works, even if it is hard/complex/whatever! The worst part about this is that the game dev understood that this game was complex, was hard, and included a walkthrough...that didn't include a detailed method for fishing/landing. While one of those was a small mechanic that will decided your fate in life and death situations, the other is a frustrating slog the longer you struggle through it; though if you figure it out you will use it for the rest of the game. But is the game bad? No. Not at all. If you can struggle through the first few hours while you figure out the basics of what you're doing (taking the game to 'hard to learn, hard to master') then you'll have a blast. Seriously. It'll be a lot of fun for you. And if you do buy it, play it, and enjoy it, please feel free to stop by and tell me how the hell you catch fish. I still can't figure that one out.

Okaaaay, The Falconeer! Game about flying in giant birds destroying flying ships. What could go wrong? The Falconeer is a charming game. The lore, the worldbuilding, the story, the dialogues, the politics, and the birds! Of course! It uses some Steampunk stuff, and I like that very much thank you! The graphics are also very good, with minimalist textures, and it looks very good most of the time, and the water is superbly animated. For a world that looks like Earth in a few years, it looks pretty darn compelling. :) But The Falconeer has a few things that detract from the experience, of course, the biggest offender is the quest designs. It's always catch that, kill this, deliver that, and the worst missions are present, of course: "ESCORT MISSIONS". I sincerely don't understand it, some missions are literally 3 minutes of BABYSITTING a ship that's slower than a slug. I literally dropped my controller and let my bird fly alone on multiple occasions until something happened on screen. I am also not a fan of how the game is structured. Like, it has chapters, but each chapter you lose your bird cuz now you're someone else from another house, and your 12k full of mutagens badass bird is now lost… Start again from scratch, Sh*tface. Why??? In the end, I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. Love the universe, love the combat, love the flying, hate the quests, hate the structure. I am not a city builder player, so I hope the dev revisits some more aerial combat gameplay in the future, with more varied missions, and preferably less escorting... I slightly recommend The Falconeer.

This game can be great but you have to know what you get yourself into before. This is not a AAA game, not even an AA game. This game was created by a single developer so you can not expect things like you are probably used to. First the "bad" stuff (but again, as this comes from a single developer you can not really expect much). The game is not good at explaining things to you. There are attempts there and also an tutorial but more than once I had no clue how to do something specific and had to look it up. The Open World aspect is not flashed out at all. You start and finish all your missions at your specific chapter base. To start the Open World part you have to leave this base and travel to another location and can do side quests there, but my instinct was to first complete all missions at this base. There is also no real indication which side quests at which location would be best for you (how many enemies and how tough) before you are there. At many places you can not really do anyhting unless you have a "permit" which you can buy at another location (at which exactly was again not clear to me). But as the gameplay loop becomes boring really quick (fighting enemies, ships, forts, and loooots of escort missions) I was not really interested in that part of the game anyway. The difficulty curve is really steep, I guess that is the reason why not many people got past the first chapter (from 4) according to the achievements for it. You can level up by doing missions but you have no clue which mission gives the most xp (in the shortest amount of time), you just have to try them and find the best for you (and guess by looking how far the bar moved). But I don't think the stats change that much for it anyhow. The best thing you can do is buy a better bird. But that is locked behind races that you have to complete before you can buy them. So that's what I did. Many people seemed to have a problem with them but I don't think they were that hard (and I'm really not good at racing stuff). Mouse and Keyboard worked really well for me. You can buy better weapons to do more damage, but again you have to look up where that is and you have to try different weapons for youself (by buying them). The lore of this world looks pretty interesting on the surface but it is not really fleshed out so I never really had a clue what exactly was going on. I never really played flying shooters like this before so I can not really compare it to other titles but I enjoyed it well enough. The dev is also very active and will try to help you and answer your questions even years after the original release. This game has a kind of old school vibe for me. Back then it was not that easy to understand how to play a game and reading the manual was practically mandatory. These days you don't really need that, so I never thought of it. But my advice would be to get the free manual DLC, I guess it will explain a lot and save you some headaches. All in all I enjoyed completing all achievements for this game and would recommend this game if you can live with the shortcomings (which again are completely understandable if there is only one person behind it)

I was originaly interested in the sequel of this game, a city builder called Bulwark but I bought both of them in Bundle and I'm really satisfied about it. The game is short and the gameplay loop a bit repetitive but overhall everything is enjoyable. The art style, visual and music are nice and work well together. Really worth a buy especially at the time I write this review as the game is heavily discounted.

Really Nice short indie game. This is made by a one developer team so don't expect the content of a AAA production. The gameplay is nice but a bit redundant, the artistic style has a lot of personality too. As I write this the game price is at -80%, totaly worth a buy. Personally even at his full price I think the game is worth it.
