I played this game day one when it was released on Gamepass. Despite having a simple but gorgeous art direction and great lore, the gameplay was ROUGH, so I quit the game. One year later I gave it another try, and the game had major improvements gameplay-wise (like ammo management), which made the game a much more pleasant experience. I enjoy it so much that I bought the game and all DLC on Xbox. Now that I have abandoned the Windows / Xbox eco-system due to their lack of direction and forced IA slop, my new home is Linux / Steam, and to my surprise, I have found that the developer has revisited again and improved the game and visuals. So I bought it again. The game is incredible and very enjoyable with tons of possibilities for future installments. But to be fair, it has some rough edges too. Inventory management can be weird, there is no stable to manage your birds, and the beginning gets hard pretty fast, forcing you to grind to catch up, especially on harder difficulties. But overall the game is an unusual gem in a sea of reskinned games. I can't wait for a Falconeer sequel!.

I initially left a negative review, but after thinking about it — and after the developer took the time to talk to me and address my concerns — I realized that my reaction came from going in with the wrong expectations. I really appreciate the time and effort the developer put into responding to me. I was looking for a more intense, action-heavy experience, and that’s simply not what this game is meant to be. That said, it’s not a bad game at all. It runs incredibly smoothly, it looks beautiful, and the German voice acting is excellent. My personal issues remain: the gameplay loop feels repetitive to me, the world often feels empty, and combat mostly revolves around flying in circles with enemies. Escort missions also felt slow to me. But again — these are subjective criticisms based on what I enjoy, not on the quality of the game itself. If I had understood the intended pacing and style beforehand, I probably wouldn’t have bought it simply because it’s not my type of gameplay. But the game is well-crafted, and players who enjoy a calmer, atmospheric flight-and-combat experience will likely appreciate it far more than I did.

Although it definitely has some design issues, such is to be expected from any game trying to do it's own unique thing and experimenting with ideas. (instead of, you know, copying the flavor of the month bait slop). The game got it's biggest DLC (Edge of the World) added in to the base game for free with the remaster update, which was also free, plus the developer immediately responds to bug reports or player feedback, and adding to that the game is pretty much dirt-cheap specially during sales, so i don't see how it's possible to give this game a negative review, value-wise this is as fair and underappreciated as they come. Unless you're one of the guys with 0.3 hrs who got filtered by a basic tutorial, of course.

A beautifully atmospheric flight game that played excellently on the Steam Deck. Now set to receive a major, free graphical overhaul, I can’t wait to play again and experience all it has to offer on the Ursee.

Can I recommend this game? No(?) This game appears to embrace that which makes the best games great, 'easy to learn, hard to master.' There's clearly a well developed, well designed, well planned game here. As a matter of fact I would say that about 94.7% of the game is an easy slam dunk. No questions asked. The issue is the learning. It's... not great. I spent a good 20 to 40 minutes trying to figure out how to land. I actually deleted my save data and restarted (that wasn't a huge deal, I was barely into the game) thinking that I had missed something in the tutorial. Oh, My, Gosh, this was rough. Yes, I felt like an idiot for missing the big text on top, but that didn't appear until I had button mashed my way into 'success' a few times. Oh, and the fishing. I still don't know how to catch fish, and I passed the quest for it! That's...bad. Really bad. I get that nobody wants to have their 'hand held' for everything, but that's what optional tutorials are for! Hand holding! I shouldn't pass a quest by sheer dumb luck! Barring that, I should probably know how the mechanic works, even if it is hard/complex/whatever! The worst part about this is that the game dev understood that this game was complex, was hard, and included a walkthrough...that didn't include a detailed method for fishing/landing. While one of those was a small mechanic that will decided your fate in life and death situations, the other is a frustrating slog the longer you struggle through it; though if you figure it out you will use it for the rest of the game. But is the game bad? No. Not at all. If you can struggle through the first few hours while you figure out the basics of what you're doing (taking the game to 'hard to learn, hard to master') then you'll have a blast. Seriously. It'll be a lot of fun for you. And if you do buy it, play it, and enjoy it, please feel free to stop by and tell me how the hell you catch fish. I still can't figure that one out.
