The Guild 2 fills a nice niche of game. It is relaxing with a good bit of intrigue and plotting. The goal of being the last Dynasty standing is still something I've working on but there is a good set of tutorial videos to help get you going on the basics. The game is buggy but as a older game it still feels very fun to play and some of the glitches don't actually affect the game play. The (auto path) for units that stand around to do jobs is a bit annoying and requires a bit more micro management. The game play does take a while to get used to and the different maps each present their own options and challenges. The political system is simple at first and becomes more complex as your town/village/city grows and more jobs become available. I think with the guides available online and on youtube this game is worth a try.

Fun game but it crashes a lot. In fairness I am running one Mod. Still It crashes about every third turn.

It is cheap and devalued because of how long ago it was released, but it is worth every penny you throw at it. Mind the bugs and crashes and I recommend you install Fajeets mod that tries to fix up some of the problems. I have played it online several times with my gf, eventually the save will cause CTDs and become unplayable but it is still fun to spend a couple hours on a weekend's afternoon.

The Guild 2 is one of my all time favorite games. I played it back in 2006, when it was first released, for days and weeks. Many many hundreds of hours of joy and... yes pure hatred. Because The Guild 2 was, is and will always be very buggy. But then Renaissance came along! It's The Guild 2 but better. Yes, it has some bugs too but it's manageable and I've never encountered really game breaking bugs. The gameplay basically stays the same but with some good and entertaining additions. More items to make and trade, more workplaces, more maps, more politics, more of everything. I especially like the addition of the matchlock pistol for use in combat. Somehow it gives you such a "badass" feeling when your opponent wields a sword around and you just take out your gun and shoot that idiot. I have all the games on disc and played them for countless hours in the last decade or almost two now. And now I am at 90 hours on the steam version. So that's that. Don't let you scare away from a few bugs. It's really a lot of fun. If you have some spare money, are interested in this (niche) genre and aren't frustrated too easily about some bugs, give it a shot. You'll not regret it. The Guild 2 & Renaissance will always have a special place in my heart and game list.

Knights and Merchants KNIGHTS and MERCHANTS recreates the era of the Middle Ages. Apart from the purely fictitious geography of our world, all game elements and scenes are based on the Anglo-Saxon period, 1200 A.D. And we haven't used imaginary elements like fabled creatures, either. The player takes on the role of an ordinary captain in the Palace Guard.
