The Last Tinker: City of Colors is a vibrant and heartfelt action-adventure that wears its inspiration from classic 3D platformers proudly while carving out an identity built around color, emotion, and thematic unity. Developed by Mimimi Games and published by Daedalic Entertainment, the game presents a whimsical yet allegorical journey through Colortown, a world literally powered by its many hues. From the very beginning, it establishes a tone that is playful on the surface but quietly reflective underneath, inviting players into an experience that values atmosphere and message as much as mechanics. The narrative follows Koru, a curious and kind-hearted protagonist from the lower districts of Colortown, who becomes an unlikely hero when a creeping force known as the Bleakness begins draining color, joy, and harmony from the world. Each district of Colortown is associated with a specific color and emotional identity, and the story explores how these groups have grown divided, mistrustful, or stagnant. Rather than delivering a complex plot full of twists, the game opts for a fairy-tale structure that emphasizes empathy, cooperation, and balance. Its message about diversity and emotional coexistence is conveyed in a way that feels approachable and sincere, even if at times it leans toward simplicity. Visually, The Last Tinker is easily one of its strongest offerings. The art direction is bold, saturated, and consistently imaginative, using exaggerated shapes and rich palettes to make each region feel distinct and alive. Red areas pulse with energy and intensity, green zones feel fluid and organic, and blue spaces evoke calm and introspection. This visual clarity not only reinforces the game’s themes but also makes exploration genuinely enjoyable, as moving through Colortown feels like stepping inside a living painting. Even years after its release, the game’s aesthetic holds up well because it relies on stylization rather than technical realism. Gameplay is designed to be accessible and fluid, prioritizing ease of movement over precision. The platforming system features an auto-jump mechanic that allows Koru to leap to nearby ledges without strict timing, smoothing out traversal and keeping momentum high. This design choice makes the game welcoming to players less experienced with platformers, but it also removes much of the tension and skill expression found in more demanding titles of the genre. Exploration is generally pleasant and forgiving, focusing on guiding players through the world rather than testing reflexes or precision. Combat and puzzles follow a similar philosophy. Enemies corrupted by the Bleakness are dealt with using simple attack and dodge mechanics, and while new color-based abilities add variety, encounters rarely require deep strategy. As Koru collects color spirits, he unlocks powers tied to each hue, such as freezing enemies or manipulating movement timing, which are used both in combat and environmental puzzles. These mechanics are clever in concept and thematically cohesive, but they are often underdeveloped, with most challenges resolved quickly once the basic idea is understood. The game clearly favors flow and narrative pacing over mechanical depth. The presentation of the story is charming but intentionally light. Dialogue is delivered through stylized speech bubbles and expressive animations rather than full voice acting, giving interactions a storybook quality. Characters are exaggerated and symbolic, embodying the traits of their respective colors, which reinforces the game’s themes but can sometimes make them feel more like ideas than fully realized personalities. For some players, this simplicity enhances the allegorical nature of the tale, while others may find it lacks emotional complexity or nuance. From a technical standpoint, the game performs reliably on PC, though minor issues such as camera awkwardness or occasional stiffness in combat animations can surface. These rough edges rarely derail the experience, but they do remind players that the game’s ambition lies more in its artistic and thematic vision than in mechanical polish. The soundtrack complements the visuals well, shifting tone subtly between regions and reinforcing emotional beats without becoming intrusive. Ultimately, The Last Tinker: City of Colors is a game defined by its warmth, charm, and visual imagination rather than by challenge or complexity. It offers a compact adventure that can be completed comfortably in a modest number of hours, making it well suited for players looking for a relaxed, story-driven experience. While it may disappoint those seeking tight platforming mechanics or deep combat systems, it succeeds as a cohesive and thoughtful journey that celebrates creativity, emotional balance, and the beauty of a world brought together by color. For players open to a gentler, more expressive take on the action-adventure genre, it remains a memorable and endearing experience. Rating: 8/10

Its a vibe for real. Feels like i'm a kid watching a wholesome nick jr. cartoon before school in the 90's. Almost the definition of cozy. Easy to follow story with some wisdom thrown in, charming characters, generally just an easy game between the puzzles, combat, and traversal, even on hard. Its all about the vibes. And the vibes are immaculate. The camera sucks sometimes, but since the stakes of any given moment are so low, its not a headache.
