I bought this game specifically to hear more of Beícoli's music because I really liked what she did in Laika: Aged Through Blood. I got way more than I could have hoped for, it's basically 2 full albums of deeply emotional music and all the songs are bangers. All packaged into a game as a delivery system, quite fantastic. And this time we get to hear way more of her beautiful voice and mind, she's really talented I hope she's considering making an album with this kind of talent..! I feel bad I paid so cheap but I wanted to play it now, so I bought it to a friend too..! Thank you so much for this great little gem, yes I cried..!

A game not for everyone because of its pacing. It's very slow, much slower than most other games I or my friends generally play. There's no escalation, no bigger overarching narrative, no dialogues even. It's just stories about people. Or rather, it feels almost as if looking at the memories that the creators have of very mundane things, and living that for a few minutes. I enjoyed it because of that. It gave me an appreaciation for my own life, and its slower parts. If you're looking for an experience that is slow, sweet and simple, then i heavily recommend the game! !!!! SPOILERS!!!! ---------------------------------- I did not expect to recieve a gut punch in the last story. The hospital scene just... did something to me. I enjoyed every story in its own right. the crocodile was a clever introduction to everything that the game is. Short, but set the tone really well for how the rest of the game is going to play out. The mouse's train ride had me fighting my own boredom. I was enjoying myself, but i also, well, felt very immersed as the mouse. having nothing else to do but wait, and stare at the lamp and outside the cab. The biggest selling point for me was how the game didn't shy away from showing and having me play as people just living their own lives, and letting me be bored and slowly immerse myself into who these characters are. I realized halfway in the first story that the title might also have been more of a reference to life being the longest road on earth. i was kind of wondering how they were gonna manage to have 4 people chit chat on a literal road for a couple of hours. ultimately, i have gotten a lot out of this. It rekindled my appreaciation for the small things. It made me realize how... we are all in similar positions at the end of the day. How the experience of "life" i want to have, requires those slow moments. How most of us today live so fast, and never get the chance to be lost in the beauty of nature and even industrial constructs. Perhaps i looked too deep into what is otherwise a very simple set of stories, but i appreaciated it because i got this out of it. -------------------------------------------------------- 9/10 No opossums, so i'm a bit disappointed. /joking

Can video games be considered art? The Longest Road on Earth certainly seems to answer this question with a yes. But it is less of a traditional video game and more like an interactive music video crossed with a walking sim. Without any dialogue or text, we get to take in beautiful B&W highly detailed pixel art sceneries while listening to a mesmerizing soundtrack created by artist Beicoli. But you should try the demo first. If you dont like the music, do not get this game, because the music is truly the heart of the game. Gameplay is minimal and consists mostly of clicking or walking left or right when needed. You guide anthropomorphic animal characters through scenes of daily life activities, while the peaceful and soothing tunes of Beicoli’s voice carry the narrative. The game doesnt seem to save, but it is divided into four chapters, each of which can be started from the main menu. It is fairly short, about 2 hours long. This is definitely not a game for everyone, but I found its meditative slow pace and hauntingly beautiful soundtrack to be a perfect way to relax and reflect on what makes life meaningful. A great game to unwind with in the evening.

I bought this because of Beícoli. Her music powers my own art. I have never felt this way before, about a singer. This is no game, it’s an art piece. Eleven dollars to feel something? Go for it. I came for the music, and got more than what I wanted.

Something I see here quite often is: I wanted to like the game but... My version of that is: I do like the game BUT how and to whom I would recommend it, is a totally different thing and I don't even know if I would even recommend it to myself, but yea probably in the end I would. You may notice that I'm a little conflicted and most of the time I don't like it when games trigger this in me, there are a few exceptions but The Longest Road on Earth is not one of them. I have no problem with the few and sparse mechanics, I like pixelart stuff and most of it here looks okay to good and most of the music is aight, I mean there are some quite good emotional songs that fit reasonably well. Nevertheless, there is a lot to talk about... (Why so terribly slow? oh no, wrong direction!) First of all, and I have to be honest about it, I feel a little screwed and manipulated by the store page and the way they describe the game. Yes, it is a little thought-provoking thingy, but it only scratches the surface and it mainly creates certain feelings because of the music. Furthermore, we really don't delve deep into the lives of these four characters, we just catch a glimpse, which of course wouldn't sell a game so well, but that's just the truth. The game info says: “Let your imagination run wild... and find out what you associate with the characters and their respective surroundings.” Poorly chosen words for, there is a lot of room for personal interpretation. Or ,,takes no longer than two hours and is worth every single step." Proof that this is also not true is shown here in 2 places with this review alone, can you please stop trying to sell me another washing machine, I already have three of them! But I understand, yours is so much better than anything else, well then give it to me! And: ,,The relaxed pace of the game allows you to immerse yourself... in an enjoyable and relaxed manner." Well I found it a little depressing, even more so than it already is or should be. Then there are people who, for certain reasons, cannot cope well with so much inertia, not a big problem for me, but it's still advertised here as a game for everyone and all ages, oh well. I would have liked a little more depth in everything, just a little bit, there can, may and should be such games without any dialog and little interaction, but the thing is, it's actually more about the music than the actual game, and even as a huge music fan I have to say it feels a bit odd to play a simple game because of some music. And unfortunately I also have to criticize a few things when it comes to sound and the audio programming, they did put some thought into it and added loop sections if the player doesn't finish a part with a certain song in time, but it wasn't done consistently at all points, and without good transitions which creates gaps that gets in the way of the mood. There are some, but rarely and unfortunately sometimes inappropriate or barely audible backround sounds, I really missed some well-made background noises in here, it would have drawn me so much more into it (field recordings and foley sounds) and I think that was clearly a mistake and a big waste of potential. Unfortunately, the songs are all too similar and often a word or phrase gets repeated far too often, mixing errors here and there, but please don't get me wrong there are some nice ones among them. And after listening to all the songs several times and also paying attention to the lyrics, what we got here with The Longest Road on Earth feels a bit random, or - and I really don't mean this in a harmful way, a bit unimaginative and nitwitted. Sorry. So sure give me emotional music that makes me cry, let me hang up laundry and mop up dirt in a gray world of pixels and you'll probably get a thumbs up, but please don't take me for a fool. Since the game was developed around the music, and although I said at the beginning that I liked the game, it still could have been more of a game. So if you are interested in music and want to wallow in melancholy without doing much, I recommend getting The Longest Road on Earth when it's on sale, but don't get the two DLCs because believe me, you don't really need them.
