Cute and short game, for the current price of 9,75€ i recommend it if you like tower defense games. But there is a lot of wasted potential here! You can summon and command soldiers like a RTS game which is a super cool mechanic but the level design does not allow for proper use of the soldiers. Only 1 or 2 levels allow for cover or interesting positions to actually put them. You can even win the level by conquering the enemy base which never happened for me. Resources are quite rare and better invested in towers. You just don't have the funds to command an army. With only better level design and an slightly changed economy this game could be Amazing. In its current state its just a pretty average tower defense game.
4 hours to beat on hard, lost a few rounds too, so well priced for it. I enjoyed the game, I also spent a LOT of time doing this stuff as a kid. So the connection for me was good. The environments feel very accurate to how a child would view them. And the mix of tower defense and light RTS was fun. I'll buy a DLC if it comes out.
The boy you play as, Kevin, is a little psychopath. I thought this was going to be a by the numbers game about a kid playing with his toys. If you thought Sid from Toy Story was bad... I could not have been more wrong. Kevin is a psychotic child who is off his meds. The more you play and the more you see of Kevin the more you realise this. His toys start to play up a little bit and he picks it up and rips it in half, he covers his sisters bathroom toys in "DIE DIE DIE" and mutilates his sisters toys. He'll constantly go "I don't remember these toys" despite having dozens upon dozens of them. How do you not remember all your toys, Kevin? Did the medication make you forget? The little narcissist also calls himself the greatest general ever as his toys, that he perceives as alive and free thinking individuals, are sent to their deaths by the dozen. As he destroys the bathroom, wastes food and cuts up clothing and tablecloths to make "battlefields" like the little destroyer he is you will notice one thing: KEVIN IS A CREATURE OF THE NIGHT. Kevin is a vampire. You can see his shadow but you cannot see his reflection in the mirror or in anything but you can see everything elses reflection. Is the medication to subdue his vampiric needs for blood and violence? I look forward to finding out. Cool game.
This game is an awesome experience and has completely captured my attention. The combination of animation, graphics, and theme is all top-tier and perfectly aligns with exactly what I look for in a video game. These elements come together beautifully to deliver a specific, wonderful "feel" that makes the game highly immersive. Crucially, the quality isn't limited to the visuals; every single one of the levels presented so far is totally great, showcasing a consistently high standard of level design and gameplay polish. My overall feedback of the game, so far, is emphatically great! However, because the current experience is so enjoyable and the levels are so well-designed, I am left with a powerful desire for more content. I am truly looking forward to the future and strongly hope for the addition of more levels to the main campaign. The game's core mechanics are strong enough to support a much longer playtime, and I'd love to see where the excellent design team takes the experience next. Beyond just solo content, my friends and I are eagerly anticipating the implementation of a dedicated Multiplayer mode. This feature, particularly one that allows us to grind together in some form perhaps in cooperative defense, challenge maps, or a shared objective mode would be an absolute game-changer for the game's longevity and community engagement. For the time being, I will continue to enjoy and explore the Endless Mode, but the addition of more levels and a cooperative Multiplayer option is what I believe will truly solidify Toy Shire's place as a phenomenal title.
