+ look & graphics + gameplay mechanics - boring story - few types of enemies 7/10

Where everything started not from a big but from very small and unique. Combined with creative ideas and stuning visuals the series became something more. Clever puzzles and fun interaction with story and characters that pushes to its limits with every titles more and more into greater odyssey. What will comes next after that only time will tell but Trine should be loved and cherished to its core. Open next page of your steps into fairytale sprite.

A fun blend of fantasy and magic, Trine evokes the timeless charm of a classic fairy tale. Even years after its release, the ability to switch between characters in its platformer setting, each with their own unique mechanics, remains engaging. I’ve spent the first few hours playing in single-player mode, and it’s been a joy. Next on my list? Trying it out in local co-op

This is a great plaformer.... to play with your wife or best friend. It's a co-op puzzle masterpiece, but there is no point in playing singleplayer. That's just too easy and takes away the fun of shouting at your partner to do X, and watch her do Y instead, killing you both...

Trine is a nice little game by Finnish developers Frozenbyte. It is simple and easy, yet competently made, no wonder it spawned 4 more titles. Trine is coop intended but can be played solo. The puzzle sections are the main selling point of the game and are easy enough to be completed in many different ways. That's when players can express their own style and display innovation. Brute force your way as the Knight, parkour around as the Thief or just create pathways as the Wizard. The competent physics make room for the players imagination. The whimsical story was an afterthought and that can clearly be felt. Trine is gameplay over story. What are the names of the protagonists again? I dunno.. What's the story and who is the villain? also dunno... What started to annoy me is how the levels are all either dungeons or forests, we get little variety. Same old mushrooms and discarded gears everywhere. (from what I saw, they remedy that in the sequels) Oh and quitting the game forces you to go through an ad for "Trine 3" which is very annoying. (also why Trine 3? The worst of the Trine games?) Overall a nice little game that reminded me of old and simple PS2 era games like "Spyro" or "Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom". A decent entry and a fine start for the Trine journey.
