This one will be a cautious positive review since I still feel conflicted on the use of AI in our entertainment. I was originally going to avoid this game until I saw how fluent the conversations can lead into this game. The game has a 450 character limit & I've never in my lifetime played a game where you can actually feel like a detective without restrictions such as choice boxes and other previous tools used in older games. Especially in RPGs where choice is one of main enjoyments such as Fallout New Vegas or newer games like Disco Elysium with good writing. I see why actors and ones that do voice acting are horrified of AI. AI as unknown as it is currently does a more capable job of being believable than a written script. It's really scary the lengths it goes and I believe the devs did a good job showing how dangerous this new tool is with each of the cases. Exploring the ethics of AI, what happens if we can reverse death with AI, how we deal with grief, the impact of art in the technological world & so many other relevant topics that I believe are very important in how we steer the future. I say this is cautious because not everyone will be for games with Deep learning AI in them such as ChatGPT or other tools. I know infamously when creatives such as Studio GHIBLI director [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngZ0K3lWKRc]Hayao Miyazaki was shown the potential of AI, he was so disgusted that he believed robots will never understand human pain. After playing this game I believe this technology will be inevitable for usage despite past warnings. Unfortunately a lot of bad knowing our human history of discovery but with a cautious approach like how the devs handled the use of AI. I believe we can still keep AI as a tool instead of our downfall. This one is a potential 2024 GOTY for me for asking the important questions of life while also being a well written detective mystery. For some people it'll be a last straw for innovation, that we went too far. The third and fifth case for me were a reminder of the dangers of unresolved grief and having to remind the player the simple lesson to move on. Never forget your relatives to empower you but don't disrupt the biggest step to life which is death. I still miss my father but I wouldn't want to resurrect him at all knowing how personalities can be forgotten. EDIT: I nominated this game for the 2024 Steam Awards GOTY category

This game is the best example of utilizing AI chat mechanic in gaming. And it works perfectly with Immersive story. I became a fan of ReLU Games after playing this game. Looking forward to the next game produced by this studio.

Overall: Up to Chapter 3, it's been super fun and really intriguing. Chapter 1: Talking to Echo raises my blood pressure. It talks better than I do! Chapter 2: This chapter gets a bit tricky. The story suddenly becomes more complex, but stick with it, and you'll see it has a different kind of appeal compared to Chapter 1. Chapter 3: Mind-blowing. The visuals, music, and story are all amazing. There's a gallery website address in the game, and you should definitely check it out to see how crazy these creators are. I'm actually glad this game isn't super popular yet, so I haven't run into any spoilers. But more people should definitely experience this next-gen gaming. I still have two chapters left, and I'll update my review once I finish them!

If you enjoy detective games or are a fan of sci-fi stories like "Detroit: Become Human," you'll likely be captivated by the depth and expansiveness of "Smoking Gun." As felt in the previous demo version, the dialogues with robots in this full version are so philosophically and emotionally impressive that it's hard to believe a human could have written them to be more profound.
