The Roguelike element of this game centers around modding your gun. I was very much expecting "10% faster fire rate" "5% more damage for 3 seconds when you kill an enemy" Meanwhile, the very first mod I see "Bullets fire from the sky instead of your gun" Done, game of the year, 11/10, peak game design, absolutely no notes. I do want to mention that the sound design in this game is top notch, but it is HARSH as hell. Some sounds are ear piercing in a weird way. So turn down SFX to like 50 or so if its hurting your ears

This game contains an upgrade which gives you more ammo the lower you set your screen resolution. GOTY right here

I wish we had a "Yes, but" option for game recommends. Game is super well optimised, can tell the dev (Daniel) is doing an amazing job and it's a labour of love. I think there's a few balance things that need to get hammered out before it's in the place it has the potential to be: -We are a bit too squishy and enemies are a bit too spongy, in a repetitive way. Can turn combat into "running away throwing grenades" simulator -Would be nice if enemies had a bit more weight to their deaths to give that impact, right now you kind of just sail around shooting/grenading things while they quietly die without you noticing (as you're running away throwing grenades to grab health drops) But there's a 10/10 game in here, it just needs a tiny tiny bit more balancing

I came across a mod in one of my runs that increases damage output of my gun based on how high I've set my in game sensitivity. 10/10 game for making me play like a pure autist. P.S. this is a really good game for a solo dev, can't wait for future content updates!

Even though I will complain a lot in this review I want to give this a positive review because of how impressed I am with the amount of detail, scope and complexity in this project. Everything on the surface here is very well made. The movement feels fluid, the progression systems both in- and outside of runs are interesting but for me it all falls apart quite quickly in the particulars of the shooting and how builds work. First off, my biggest gripe is how the recoil is handled. I haven't tested all weapons so I'm mostly talking about the assault rifle here. The recoil system just doesn't work and makes for a bad experience. The recoil drags your viewport upwards just like it does in games like Counter-Strike but when you stop shooting the viewport will be pulled back down the entire distance it went up during shooting. The problem here is, when you compensate for the recoil so that your crosshair stays in place, when you stop shooting, the viewport will be dragged downwards making you look right at the floor. In CS this happens too but since the recoild is so insane in this game, tilting your viewport upwards by like 45°, you will have to fight the camera to keep your viewport centered whenever you stop shooting. It's incredibly annoying and made me want to stop playing as soon as I had unlocked the weapon. I'd appreciate it a lot of this could be changed. Also I feel like enemy hitboxes are off somehow. I need to give it a closer look but I felt I needed roughly 7-8 hits to kill an average enemy but 30 bullets to make these hits happen. It's possible that this happens because of the very strong shooting feedback when you aim down sights. The guns move by quite a bit really moving backwards by quite a lot whenever you pull the trigger. Maybe the scopes become inaccurate since the guns are moving so much so it only feels like you're supposed to hit but in reality your aim is off because the gun is jumping all over the screen. It's a bit overtuned. On another note, I think the perk system - while a great idea - needs a big rebalance. I only did 2 runs where I died on the first quite early because I was still learning how the game worked but in my second run, I beat the entire experience with such ease that I was tempted to quit the run because I was too overpowered. I was able to one shot every boss every time they entered a new phase (bosses in this game all have 3 phases in between which they heal back to full). The mods you get are already quite powerful but the repeater-mods completely break all balance atm. Just for reference that this particular combination can be fixed, here's what I did: - a perk that instead of shooting one bullet, it shoots a whole 5x4 (or similar) grid of slow moving bullets and turns your weapon into an AoE tool - a perk that spawns a damaging zone around each bullet - a perk that makes projectiles duplicate, the further they move - a perk that slows down projectiles but increases their damage (making them duplicate more often, I think) - a perk that makes bullets home in on enemies (counteracting the AoE part of the first mod and essentially increasing the guns damage by the amount of bullets spawned because every bullet now hits the enemy it homes in on) These worked together way too well to completely break the game and turn the entire experience into "hold mouse 1 until the entire arena is dead". I did not have to learn enemy patterns, learn how to dodge properly, etc. . It felt really boring despite me doing really well. As soon as a boss activated, I clicked 2-3 times and his health bar was empty. If all builds in this game can reach this amount of power, I'm not interested in finding them because it makes the game boring to play. Also with this build my performance dropped by quite a lot from a rock solid locked 120 fps down into the 40s with even occasional hitches because the game probably couldn't handle enemies getting attacked by many hundreds of damage instances at the same time. With all that said, I think the base of this game is solid and you should definitely give it a shot. I don't see how any of the things I complained about could not be fixed during early access and I'm really confident that this will turn out great on release.
