Dec. 2025
It's a Brotato-like made by a guy who pumps out cheap games with tons of modes and unlockables. I like it slightly more than Boneraiser Minions, but it still feels less like a game I'm playing and more like a game I'm *watching.* The choices you make in shops are not as exciting, the UI is far too same-y and sterile, and it doesn't do anything new in the genre aside from hacking spots where you watch a percentage go up and hover in a circle. The biggest sin of all however is how generic all the enemies and characters look. Nothing stands out as particularly memorable, cool or interesting, despite the clear effort that went into the pixel art. This is all made by a great artist but it lacks a strong vision. Compare the creatures and bosses in this game to their previous work and you can see the difference immediately. Still, you can't really go wrong with such a low price. It's clear this game was made from a place of wanting to experiment, and I respect that. However, of all the awesome Caiysware games, this might be the least good, I'm sad to say. At least Spirits Abyss and Skelly Selest had personality. Voids Vigil works, but it's not a big winner. 6.5/10

Good garlic-like by the boner minions guys Based around short waves so you're not spending 45+ minutes on a run Builds are quite original for the genre, power-ups are not your standard area/frequency/power modifiers but rather, you have a mix of weapons, elemental attributes, drones, active/passive powers plus your class modifiers. Only thing I'm not too sure is particularly relevant is the plain old points system, which are used for leaderboard purposes. But overall it's been a good time.

Just as good as Boneraiser Minions with a lot of fun little tweaks to the gameplay to set it apart. If you liked Boneraiser you definitely gonna love Voids Vigil too.

There are things I enjoy about this game, it's fast paced, bite sized gameplay which you can play in-between short breaks. The pixel art is pretty good, the enemy variation is humongous, the music isn't bad either but it gets repetitive. There's a ton of characters, weapons, drones, abilities, upgrades, and achievements to unlock which feel quite satisfying. You have plenty of game modes, daily/weekly challenges, and even a Final Fantasy 8/9 style card game. What doesn't work in my opinion is that the game is overly chaotic, overwhelming, and cluttered. There's a ton of text and information popping up on the screen at once, the overly juvenile equipment information makes it harder to parse and detracts from the overall experience (especially if you're not a native English speaker). Boneraiser minions did the "Vampire Survivor" style gameplay better, it was also more organized and packed into a neat package. You always knew what all your minions did, what you had to do to upgrade them, and how to progress with unlocking new content. Here on the other hand you just roll with it and figure it out as you stumble along, it honestly doesn't feel as satisfying as it could've been. I enjoy this game even with its faults, I certainly enjoy it far more than Vampire Survivors but it's not nearly as good as Boneraiser Minions. It just needs to better explain what you're doing, what you're progressing towards, and how to combine your upgrades into better upgrades. One thing is for sure, caiys is a beast at responding to community issues, fixing bugs, adding accessibility settings, as well as post-release content. They should be highly praised for that.

Went into the Voids after having some PTSR flashbacks of caiys' awesome Boneraiser Minions. There are three things to consider here. First, for those like me coming here after BM, the game is totally diferent, being a quite frenetic arena shooter. Second, the gameplay loop is extremely polished and satisfying. The weapons, the characters, the other unlockables come together perfectly. Also, the developer understands the very nature of fast-paced short session rouglikes very well, and isn't afraid to randomly give you the most OP build ever or throw you into the barely survivable mess of a level just for kicks. Third, the graphics are kinda beautiful in their own way, with those thick juicy dirty grungy pixels; but looking at it in motion makes my eyes ooze out. The feeling is almost physically discomforting. Seriously, there's no way I can even attempt to play without totally defocusing my vision. TBH I'm unsure if that's the idea or it's just me, playing BM never did this to my vision.
