A very short Visual Novel about an ambitious girl called Vinty who has a dream to realize – to become a rich and famous public figure specialized in art calligraphy! Game’s premise: You play as Vinty, a young lady bearing a dream since she was a child – to become a calligraphy artist. While living in a very tiny and deteriorated apartment barely affording to pay her rent, the heroine keeps fantasizing about being rich, to the point this fantasy sometimes gets a hold of her reality thinking of herself as superior while trying to sell her works – that appear to not even reach an average level of decency in calligraphy field. About Vinty: Our hardworking main character who does not give up to her dreams at all! In fact, she does dream a lot and often does not realize when it is time to fall back when responding to rude customers. Often ending up in embarrassing situations, she is still the typical kind-hearted girl who would help a person in need right away. Works as part-timer at a restaurant where she often gets scolded given her awkward attitude and personality, looks forward to finding a better job and pursuing a career of her own. She is also passionated about videogames; Visual Novels in particular. Featurings: This is a very short Visual Novel that you should be able to complete in ~30 minutes. The story is choice-based, therefore depending on how you choose to act you will either be reaching a bad ending or the continuation of a story. While there are few bad endings, there is only one true end. The story is really fun, particularly appreciated the humour behind Vinty’s situation and the hardworking part of her personality. The character might be found relatable due to her awkwardness as well as ambitiousness and I believe the message that this story is trying to convey us is to not give up on our dreams and keep working hard, which is really wholesome. The art is simple, yet well done and the background music fits the story well movimentating the setting when necessary. Overall: This game is recommended if you’re looking for a short and cute Visual Novel with an awkward heroine. Not recommended if you’re looking for a serious Visual Novel featuring average length and expanded narration. Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it. - Lou Holtz Without Within is more of a short introduction rather than a full visual novel, to Vinty's story; and it is the first of InvertMouse's VNs that I've enjoyed. It has a charming narrative, and lets you decide whether you'd be interested in Vinty's journey in following games for yourself; since it is free. Well, here in this 20-minute narrative, you'll take a glimpse to Miss Vinty's life. One would like to say she is a calligrapher extraordinaire, but nope, she really is not. She is simply a young woman who tries to keep her dreams of becoming a world renown calligraphy artist alive, while she struggles to make ends meet. Her reality is full of responsibilities, harsh comments and random trolls, so she starts questioning what might be wrong about her luck. Is her work that awful, or is she doing something wrong? The game mostly consists of cartoony anime artwork and uplifting midi music as display. The narrative mainly relies on humor, pop culture references and a series of smart remarks as Vinty's own impressions; and before you can count to three, you finish the game. You are given choice options 5 time throughout the game, yet the right option is always more than obvious. The wrong choice will immediately roll the game to a bad end where you'll be explained that being a jerk never bear rewards; and the right option will make progress with the story. Oh, and the actual ending is another joke on poor Vinty's life. Is it extraordinary? Not really. Is it funny? Somewhat it is since it brings a smile or two on your face. Is it sincere? Yeah, and that is the charm of Without Within . Vinty's aspirations and her journey to become a famous calligrapher mirrors on the developer mostly. The game autocritiques on itself and its creator, revealing hardships of any kind of creative career in 21st century. It serves to be an honest, even self-mocking open letter about personal experience, a struggle between dreams and reality. Not for fabulous artworks or imaginative story, but for that, for the simple honesty of it, I loved Without Within . Well, I'm off to play the second part of this game, since it's 3rd installment is to hit Steam store in a couple weeks. Try this one for free and see for yourself. Good gaming to us all! well...a flash game can be finished in ten mins . this game is too short that give my a feeling like "aha...aha....em...the end????" looks like we have WW2 ,so i ganna check it out ,and i like this BGM
