Pros: Polished, satisfying, easy to play for short/medium bursts of time. Cons: Maybe I am spoiled by the cracked out feeling you get playing Balatro, but I was hoping Wordplay would deliver a bit more juice in terms of power escalation. The synergies feel muted and challenging to line up - perhaps it would benefit from a way to limit the perk pool or further manipulate the available modifiers. Summary: 7.5/10. Worth a buy at full price for fans of word games

The core gameplay is excellent and, yes, if you like word games, it's an easy recommend. Rather than glazing, I'll give some criticism: The sound and music isn't very polished. No disrespect to the composer, but it's mixed for foreground and not background, kinda bass-heavy, so when you turn it down you're left with just kick and snare noises which get irritating. Add the high-pitched GUI sounds and you're left with a cold, rather sterile soundscape. Obviously you can mute, but a good mix can work wonders. It really needs more characterful audio cues on events, special tiles, rare appearances, etc. The Balatro elements add lots of variety to runs, but I'd like to see better animations to make rares obvious and tempting when drafting (for example). These little things could add a modicum of dopamine to the power-up process. But really, it's not a game played for thrills, it's more of a Scrabble-like satisfaction. Whether you like long words, exploiting bonus tiles, or holding on to prefixes and suffixes, you can get the game to reward you for doing so and feel very pleased with yourself. That twenty-letter word achievement will be mine, one day. TLDR: It's an absorbing word game with an excellent gameplay loop that lets you deckbuild to suit your playstyle.

The best part about WordPlay is not creating the longest words or finding the highest (base) scoring words, but rather the moment where your build forces you to scour through until you find the perfect word. Finding a word that fulfills "x? for each R" and "x? for each E" and "x2 if word starts and ends with the same letter" and then seeing your score explode as you submit "renouncer" feels fantastic.

I am humbly requesting that you accept the word "fapping" I would've gotten easily 200 points if it was an option.

Balatro and Wordle/Scrabble had a baby and by the gods, it's beautiful Super smooth and clean interface, really cool mechanics and "Deck building" For the price, it's an absolute steal, hopefully comes to IOS/Android because this game would be perfect on the go
