An epic narrative adventure set during a pivotal time in China’s history, focusing on military conquest with modest romance. Conquer the World is an FMV game of massive scope that fortifies itself with humor, well-defined characters, and good production values. Sadly, some tech issues and limited player choice keep it from excelling. You are transported back to the mid 17th century China, during a period of upheaval as the country transitions from the Ming to the Qing dynasty. You play as Deng Ming, a lowly soldier on the Ming side who must fight against the course of history. You steadily, and satisfyingly, gain rank and prestige because you have practical skills and know of past events. Four officers become so loyal they start calling you father, which is funny. Another major strength is the inclusion of real events and people. Historic facts are presented via Chinese text pop ups (requiring Google lens) but you can still get a good appreciation through the dialogue and circumstances. The game is long, taking 12 hours at first and about 18 to see everything. Player choice is limited though, with not enough branching paths. The main blocker for progression is power level, which grows based on choices. Not having enough halts progress completely, so you can reverse and choose again, or use money (from the campaign) to buy gear. Most of the other options lead to instant death or a loyalty boost for a love interest. Romance is sparse, but there is roughly the same amount as a typical romance FMV, and the six women are diverse. The warrior lady, Zhao Tianba, has amazing screen presence (played by Yu Menghan). The red-haired weapon dealer sacrifices much. A frugal businesswoman backs your rise. The white-haired doctor’s solemn expression shows deep pain. One holy maiden wants to give you love potions. And a spoiled Princess falls hard, after you recite poetry. High affection unlocks extra scenes and endings, but nothing substantial. A separate “date” menu has four dates per person, accessible via gifts. There was enough money to see all, after doing food delivery missions. You can pay real money to speed things up, but it is optional (and currently disabled). One neat feature is being able to set characters as menu backgrounds, and they say hello and react to prompts. With a bigger scope comes more bugs. English translation is good but there are way too many mistimed subs. One ending only worked when using the Chinese language, and timeline navigation broke occasionally. The game uses ADR for everything, and the voice actors are not the character actors, but it is so professionally done that it makes me rethink my hatred of ADR. Conquer the world | 伐定天下 (中文评语在底部) This game begins by placing you in the role of a soldier from the Ming Dynasty (via time travel), and you rise through the ranks to become a Ming Dynasty military leader fighting against the invading Qing forces. This historical story is inspired by the novel FaQing. This game offers a long and immersive first-person view experience, taking about 10–12 hours to reach the first ending. It includes a prologue, 5 chapters, and 2 ending chapters. Each chapter takes about 1–2 hours to complete. Completing the entire game, including the extra content—dating with characters—takes around 18–20 hours, or more if you choose to read the extra in-game books. The game features a store where you can purchase weapons (to increase your power in the story) and gifts (used in dating segments to unlock extra scenes). The dating segment follows the style of the game Reverse 21 Grams , but with fewer features. Pros [*]High-quality filming with beautiful scenery. [*]Long playtime for a single playthrough — feels like a 10-episode drama. [*]Exciting war spirit as the main theme, with elements of fantasy, adventure, comedy, and romance. [*]Very good first-person fighting scenes. [*]Makes you feel like a general in the game (feels like Romance of the Three Kingdoms drama). [*]Some selection options are well-designed with multiple outcomes — you can gain silver coins, weapons, or relationship points, and certain choices may reward you with more than one benefit. [*]Lots of extra content: a store to buy weapons and gifts, unlock videos and wallpaper photos, and multiple books to read. [*]UI customization — you can choose your preferred song from 6 selectable tracks and pick different actor avatars to appear on the main page. These avatars also have voice lines and reactions. Cons [*]The game feels rushed at launch; there are subtitle issues and achievement unlock bugs. [*]Some subtitles are missing or the text is too large, making it not fit on the screen. [*]First playthrough experience is good, but when going back to choose other options, the story is mostly linear — other choices often lead to mission failure or death. [*]Trust value indicators are inconsistent — sometimes showing gain/loss and totals, other times only totals (likely a design inconsistency) [*]Some scenes are long with mostly just dialogue, which can feel boring. [*]The 2 ending chapters contain many repeated scenes. [*]Requires an internet connection; during peak times, there may be delays or loading errors, especially in store item details. Conclusion : This is the second game from this developer, following Beacon-fire: Project Salvation Belles , which was released exclusively on Epic Games. Compared to their first game, Conquer the World feels more immersive with its first-person perspective and gives a stronger feeling of being a general during wartime. It’s also longer. However, the first game was more polished and had more movement scenes instead of static, front-facing dialogue. Hopefully, future titles avoid repeated scenes in split-ending chapters as seen in both games. Rank: S Despite some translation issues and long dialogue scenes, this is a high-quality, immersive game with a compelling war theme. The setting is interesting, the acting is delightfully hammy, the heroines are beautiful, and overall it's a really fun time. I'm really conflicted about giving it a positive review though. The game absolutely worth it's price if you play it in Chinese. However... THE ENGLISH TRANSLATION My god, it's awful. While the quality of the writing is okay (except for the poems. I'll come back to that point later), I have encountered every possible bug regarding the subttle appearance: 1. The timing is too early. 2. The timing is too late. 3. Sometimes the subtitles are just missing. 4. There was at least one scene where the subtitles were from a different scene entirely. 5. Occasionally timing for regular speech is fine, but timing for character's thoughts is out of sync and vice versa. 6. Subtitles appear ONLY for character speech. The small info bubbles explaining historical context that appear occasionally are untranslated. One and only good thing I can say about the translation is that none of the above problems concern the main menu. The menu is fine. The character profiles and item descriptions are also okay. Now, about the poems. In short, the bad translation will hinder story progression at one point. The rest is under a spoiler tag. One of the story branches features the main character talking to a spoiled princess, who is very fond of classic Chinese poems. She recites one, and the main character is supposed to recite the next line. However, the translation is so bad that it's impossible to understand which line is missing. Moreover, when she recites the same poem again at a later point, the translation is different! Of course, the player can simply brute-force the solution, but still, it's annoying. Overall, if you are playing in Chinese, or are a very patient person, I'd recommend it. Otherwise, it's a pass.

So far so good. Really enjoy the story, character development and historical aspect to it! The only downside is sometimes the English translation is out of sync (voice not correlate with subtitles) and sometimes subtitles doesn't even appear. In any wondering about IAP, you do not need to spend any more to enjoy the full game. Overall it is a good FMV and wish more Chinese FMV gets English subtitles... 9/10
