This game is one of those where I really wish there were a neutal option rather than just binary Yes/No for reviewing it, as there is a, at least for me, huge caveat to the selected "Yes" in this case. For your first playthrough, it's a great game, the narrative, the writing of it, even the acting are all pretty great... but then we get to the glaring design failure that I cannot even remotely comprehend as to why the devs ever thought it a good idea: If you want to take a different route through the story, you will have to play through the entire story from start to finish again. There is no scene tree with choices taken vs. choices not yet made overview... you cannot restart individual chapters, you have to do the entire game over again. And then here's the gravest design sin: You are not even allowed to skip through scenes you've already seen on your previous runs... and that for a game that has just shy of 340 individual scenes, which outside of using an external guide/walkthrough, you'll only ever get to see in full by having to play through the entire game from start to finish a ridiculous number of times. So yeah... I'll choose "Yes" since it is a pretty great game on your first run... and I would have loved to go through different permutations... but having to sit through everything all over again, who knows how many times... yeah, no. Maybe the devs will wake up one day and fix this really rather glaring issue... and then I'll happily play the game once more... until then, y'all have to decide for yourselves how much of a problem this is for you.
Dead Reset was a really enjoyable experience from start to finish. I bought the game on the day it launched last year, and it quickly became one of the most memorable horror games I’ve played. What stood out to me most was how much it felt like being inside a real horror movie rather than just playing a game. One of my favourite aspects of Dead Reset was its commitment to practical effects. Instead of relying heavily on CGI, the game used practical creature designs, makeup effects, and physical horror elements that gave everything a much more authentic and unsettling feel. The monster looked genuinely disturbing, and the practical effects helped create an atmosphere that reminded me of classic horror films. As a horror fan, practical effects have always been something I appreciate because they make creatures and environments feel more real and believable. That’s one of the reasons Dead Reset left such a strong impression on me. It captures the charm of old-school horror while still delivering a modern gaming experience. Overall, Dead Reset is a fantastic horror game that succeeds in creating tension, atmosphere, and genuine scares. If you’re a fan of horror games that feel like interactive horror movies and appreciate practical effects as much as I do, then this is definitely a game worth checking out. Score: 8.5/10 A creepy and immersive horror experience with excellent practical effects and a strong horror movie atmosphere.
As long as you buy it for what it is - it is very much worth it. It's a B-movie horror flick with a modest budget, but I think they use that budget really well. The choices are quite compelling, the footage is well edited and put together. Most importantly, the atmosphere, the horrors and the gore galore are well put together - it's pretty clear they made that a priority. The acting is quite decent. The game has clear inspiration from wonderful works in the genre such as The Thing and possibly even Stasis: Bone Totem? On the down side, I encounter stutters between different clips for some reason, which is unfortunate, but it seems to be a hardware specific problem. Some action scenes are not great, with pretty clear cuts and hits looking pretty weak, but it is understandable with the budget constraints. One of the achievements is pretty annoying to get, but fortunately I discovered the issue with it, head to the forums to find my posts about it. All in all, very enjoyable!
