This game is one of those where I really wish there were a neutal option rather than just binary Yes/No for reviewing it, as there is a, at least for me, huge caveat to the selected "Yes" in this case. For your first playthrough, it's a great game, the narrative, the writing of it, even the acting are all pretty great... but then we get to the glaring design failure that I cannot even remotely comprehend as to why the devs ever thought it a good idea: If you want to take a different route through the story, you will have to play through the entire story from start to finish again. There is no scene tree with choices taken vs. choices not yet made overview... you cannot restart individual chapters, you have to do the entire game over again. And then here's the gravest design sin: You are not even allowed to skip through scenes you've already seen on your previous runs... and that for a game that has just shy of 340 individual scenes, which outside of using an external guide/walkthrough, you'll only ever get to see in full by having to play through the entire game from start to finish a ridiculous number of times. So yeah... I'll choose "Yes" since it is a pretty great game on your first run... and I would have loved to go through different permutations... but having to sit through everything all over again, who knows how many times... yeah, no. Maybe the devs will wake up one day and fix this really rather glaring issue... and then I'll happily play the game once more... until then, y'all have to decide for yourselves how much of a problem this is for you.

Cheesy and gory in all the best ways possible. Superb acting from the entire cast that fits the campy sci-fi tone perfectly. Been playing FMV games since the multimedia CD-ROM days of the 90s, and this is easily among the best out there. Edit: Nominated for Sit Back and Relax award for 2025

Dead Reset is a horror FMV game. The main character, Cole Mason, is a surgeon who wakes up in some kind of science lab with no memories of where he is, and is ordered to save the life of a woman who is infected with some kind of parasite. But when the surgery goes wrong, Cole finds himself trapped in a Groundhog Day style time loop. This is basically an interactive movie, so gameplay consists of watching the FMV scenes, and occasionally making a choice to influence the story. The story and the acting are fairly good. The monster looks a bit like a Resident Evil boss, and some of the deaths are entertainingly gorey. However, the weakest part of the game is the time loop mechanic, which is extremely under used. I’ve seen many episodes of Sci Fi TV shows where a character is stuck in a time loop, so I was expecting this game to have a kind of trial and error, puzzle type progression, where I would need to figure out the correct sequence of events necessary to break the loop. Other than the first chapter, Dead Reset is disappointingly linear. While some choices can put you onto a different story path, other than specific scenes where you encounter the monster, there’s almost no looping back. Its just a glorified respawn mechanic. Even the monster fights are fairly basic. You’ll get a couple of choices, attack or evade, run or hide, and if you make the wrong choice you die. Then you reset and Cole automatically makes the other choice, and you live. The story is divided into several short chapters, and the restart point will move to the start of each chapter, so its not like you get to the end of the day, fail to break the loop and then wake up back at the very start, ready to try again armed with the knowledge gained from the previous attempt. Other than the monster fights, every choice you make is permanent (unless you start a new game). No looping back to undo mistakes, no gathering intel and then looping back to unlock new choices. My 5.3 hours playing time represents two full playthroughs. I replayed, made different choices, and got slightly different versions of the same scenes in the same locations with the same characters. Only the final chapter and the ending were significantly different. Dead Reset isn’t a bad game, its worth playing if you like horror movies. But its just not what I expected it to be.

Honestly one of the best FMV games I've played since Late Shift. The pacing is great, production values are way above average (especially given the genre), the acting is absolutely top tier and the writing is really well done. You'll easily want to play this through at least 3 times or more, and for it's price tag, this is an absolute bargain. Highly recommended.
