TL;DR: very fun platformer, very cute Long Answer: Hands down, I think A Hat in Time is one of the best games I've played that's been released since 2015. Playing this game is SERIOUSLY addicting. The movement is so fluid and doesn't feel clunky at all, in fact it's very fun to see what cool movement tricks you can pull off. The soundtrack is absolutely gorgeous, and it's obvious the game was made with so much love. All the areas are full of so much charm, and it's very easy to imagine yourself as Hat Kid. The game's phenomenal and I think everyone should play it when they get the chance. If you're a Super Mario Galaxy fan, this game is 1000% for you.

I never knew this game existed until I saw one Youtuber play this like multiple years ago. I was immediately interested in the game. As such, I bought this game, and boy, was I never disappointed. It's been four years since I last played the game before returning to Steam a month ago (to get Civ 5 which was on sale) and I played it again as it drew my attention in the Steam Library. And wow, it really reminded me why on earth I loved this game. Great art, great music, good characters, cute-as-p*** main character (Grooves: LANGUAGE, DARLING), decent worldbuilding, it's a complete all-in-one package. The game can be tough at times, but overall it's manageable. If you see a ledge afar where you see a collectible; be it a yarn, a relic, or a token, you begin to wonder if there is a way to get there. You look around, and voila, you see some stacks of items or a dusty wall that you can stand on/climb on to get there. These collectibles also give you the reason to explore, which is a must in the 3D platform games like this. Only complaint I have is that it's slightly short and has a bit of a weakly woven omnibus plot. And that's where the community comes in to save the day. There are a bunch of amazing mods out there that expands the world of A Hat in Time. Time Rifts that provide decent platform challenges, levels that reminds me of the other triple-A platformers, and other levels that technically created a game within a game. And there are also levels that made a unique plot specifically for that mod level. And those levels reach the threshold of the official DLC. Speaking of which, the DLC is fine, which I just bought a few weeks ago. I am aware of the problem that began on the first day; an unfair share of difficulty spike. But they acknowledged that they went too overboard and made major cuts and repairs; it's not something we see a lot. I understand that majority of the players want their food to be completely cooked and placed on the dish before they arrive on the table, rather than cook them on the table; even I want that. But considering that this is their first time them making a game for the wider audience, not for a handful of mod community who seeks higher challenges (where they used to be involved in), I can look the other way for this one. This was their first trip. If they can learn from that, then I'd say it's a success. And it's a success they made, as Nyakuza Metro was really good and also got new mechanics in it, and the difficulty didn't go out of whack. Not only that, this is one of the few developers who actively engage with the community; they held contests to give the modders the chance to make their creations official, and the results are Community Rifts, Nyakuza Metro's Time Rift, some hat flairs, colors, Challenge Road, even Summer and Winter Season Events. They showcase mods on their X account. They listen to community complaints and feedback and put in what they could implement. The apex? A DLC that's made by the community. I can't say anything for Vanessa's Curse because I haven't played it yet and I might not have a chance because I have no friends to play with, but the fact that the developers acknowledge the contributions the community does for their game and gives them a chance to become a part of the game they love is something you don't see everyday. Gears for Breakfast made their successful debut. I am looking forward to seeing what they can cook up next; maybe I could try Here Comes Niko.

After fully completing the game, both DLC's, and getting all death wish stamps without EZ mode, i have to say, the game is really fun. I do understand some peoples complaints about death wish difficulty and jank, but it wasn't prevalent enough to really make that big of a difference. the base game is amazing, the DLC's are fun(minus cruisin for a bruisin) and the humor is well made. easy 9/10 game.
