A short game about a subject people often avoid. There's a lot of unconfortable "perceptions" written here I assure crossed the minds of most people a few times when in a rough spot in life. Pretty good game.

as cynical as this game is, i would consider it very worthwhile. actual sunlight tells a story about a middle-aged man working a dead-end job with an absolutely miserable life. it does a really good job at contextualizing sensitive themes, namely suicide, loneliness, depression, and rumination of failures . i think it is very important to be aware of negative stories with no happy ending, because these are real stories. you can beat this game in a single sitting. despite its short length, it still leaves an impactful message. i strongly recommend this game for anyone who feels like their life is going nowhere and is at the mercy of the cruelness of the world. i also believe young people under 25 will receive the message well :)

This is a visual novel that narrates the daily struggles of a man suffering from severe depression. The "game" takes about 1 hour from start to finish. Buy this game on sale if you want to briefly immerse yourself in a dark story. There's not much elses to say about this. It's good for what it is.

Dunno how I feel about this game. It took a lot of effort to not recommend against others playing it. I enjoyed the first half more than the latter half. There was a touch of humor/witty writing that I appreciated. The overall writing quality is certainly above average and that helped. If not for the dev's writing ability it would've been closer to the rambling of an emo teen who hates the world. I saw some reviews saying that it's a bad game if you have depression/should avoid it, and my foolish depressed ass took that as something of a challenge. Well that and I was hoping that it'd strike a chord in some meaningful way. It didn't quite do that, but it did make me feel pretty shitty afterwards. The end wasn't a surprise or anything, but the way the tirade of self-hatred and misery played out in the end could possibly have been handled more deftly. I understand from the dev's own words that this is meant to be more of a "portrait" and "art" than a game. And in those areas I suppose it succeeds. I don't regret my time with the game, but it's true that it's not the best time in general and certainly for those who are struggling with mental health. You might find that you relate with some of it and being able to relate can feel good, but it can also harm you. Not a whole lot felt close to me, but it did strike home a little once or twice. The raw self-loathing in the final 20 minutes though is more uncomfortable than any relatable specifics though.

This game is ugly. And it is intended to be. Play it at your own risk.
