I was immediately interested in Air Marty the moment I learned it was made by Myles Jorgensen, the brother of Austin Jorgensen aka the creator of Lisa The Painful RPG (One of my favorite games of all time). And it's really wild to learn that whatever is going on with Austin is clearly genetic and that these two share the same sense of humor, heck this almost feels like a spinoff of Lisa where you play as Rick. Anyways, to judge the game on its own merits... It's fine. I think this really is something you buy more to laugh at the ridiculous scenarios/writing and art, and being fair it is a VERY funny game. But gameplay wise, it's pretty shallow. It's kinda like WarioWare in the sense that the gameplay consists of you doing a quick one button (or one button + dpad) microgame with very little time to figure out what's going on, with the gameplay twist being you do these one at a time instead of rapid succession. With WarioWare, it worked because half the challenge is trying to adapt on the fly and endure an onslaught of different challenges, here though, succeeding leads you to one branch of the story, while failing leads you to a different branch, with each branch being leading to its own game... And that's really it. The games never really speed up or get more intense in difficulty or anything, there's never a rapid fire, you just do a one note challenge you either succeed or fail at and move on to the next cutscene. Each branch is about 4 microgames and then you go back and succeed or fail to get another branch. Normally I'd be inclined to give something like this a negative review, but I understand that the gameplay here is more of a vehicle to tell jokes and get you to the next cutscene, and while I normally don't recommend games like this, Air Marty is saved by the fact that it's literally $3. So don't go in expecting something you'll be replaying for hours and hours to get better at, just drop the $3, laugh at the jokes, and you'll get about 2-ish hours out of it.
Man. I've been meaning to say this for a while, but I never thought a goofy little ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game would actually mean this much to me out of all things. It made me love and apreciate the kinda art that's just whacky and weird as hell for the sake of it and I couldn't be more thankful! Been sticking around this game since 2020 for whatever reason, but I don't regret it at all haha! Weird little treat of a game, truly :)
My love for this game knows no bounds... Its amazing and unique. Clearly made by someone that that has a lot of passion. Yes, its short but its always fun. I had a great time with this game and would recommend this to anyone that wants a breath of fresh air and enjoy a wacky adventure.
