Hello with the pride of completing another game with 100% achievements after a long time! 💖 I can honestly say Akane slapped me in the face and made me fall in love with it. I went in thinking, “Just a small arcade game, I’ll play a bit and move on,” but then suddenly I was sweating over the same stage for hours, heart racing, hands shaking. It’s a pure test of reflexes and focus. The gameplay is insanely smooth, brutally unforgiving, and incredibly satisfying. One single mistake and you’re done, but when you play it right, you feel like you’re inside an anime action scene. The sword slashes, gunplay, dashes… everything feels sharp, heavy, and precise. No button mashing, no panic, just you and your skills. The Tokyo neon atmosphere is chef’s kiss. 🌸 Those colors, those lights, that chaotic yet beautiful environment… stressful and oddly calming at the same time. Every retry makes you say, “Okay, this is the one,” and it becomes addictive. The amount of sweat I poured to get 100% achievements is unreal. It’s exhausting, frustrating, but also insanely rewarding. When I finished, I genuinely thought, “I’m glad I put myself through this.” Any downsides? Honestly, no. This game knows exactly what it wants to be and executes it perfectly. It doesn’t try to overextend, it doesn’t add unnecessary systems, it just delivers pure skill-based action. Short, brutal, stylish, and insanely cool. If you trust your reflexes and love challenging games, jump in without hesitation. Akane may be small, but it’s a powerhouse. 💅🔥

Good game, even better potential. The first experience you have with this game is great, it jumps you right into the action with minimal backstory and a short and direct tutorial to put you up to date. The default controls are great and make sense for their purpose, but if you have any problem, it lets you configure them your way. The combat is fluid, and the cooldowns you get pair well with the high tempo of the game, always keeping the player in situations of extreme action. The art direction in this game is great, they did a great job representing a futuristic neon Tokyo in a 2D world. This also results in a flaw in the experience, since the art is so great and the story background so short it makes you want to know more details about the characters, their motivations, and their backstories, something that will not be given to you. The soundtrack, although very limited (I think it cycled between 2 songs), was also amazing and really well chosen. The main problem in this game lies in its general gameplay. Every time you get hit, your run gets restarted, without any tracking of progress. You will unlock more gadgets and different equipable items if you complete some objectives or reach certain milestones, but that can't be counted as real progress. Having to start every time from zero with no progression to show for it, it gets overbearing after some time. When I first picked up this title, I thought that I was going to have a more fun, complete, and rewarding experience than what was presented to me. Low price and great potential tho.

So some years passed…I first played Akane on my Nintendo Switch way back when I got it a couple of years ago — one of those random downloads that somehow ended up being the perfect game for on the go. Short rounds, tight combat, neon chaos, and a soundtrack that just gets it. It instantly hooked me. You know, that era when I told myself I’d only play it on the go and not get addicted? Yeah, that went great. It was the perfect pick-up-and-slice arcade game for bus rides, lunch breaks, and ignoring real responsibilities. Since then, I’ve bought it again. On PC. Then Xbox. Then PlayStation. At this point I’ve basically funded every version of Akane in existence — and honestly, I’d do it again. (I think I’m legally part of the Akane marketing team at this point.) It’s my perfect short-style arcade game: easy to pick up, impossible to put down, and somehow endlessly replayable even when I’m technically not progressing. It’s one of those games where you die, sigh, and immediately go “aaah okay, one more run.” And before you know it, it’s 2 AM and you’ve been slicing through neon streets for hours. Also, maybe it’s just my ADHD, but something about the simple, fluid movement and that banging soundtrack really helps me get into the zone. I still have the Akane soundtrack as my morning alarm — it’s been waking me up every day for years. All in all, Akane is pure fun. No fluff, no filler — just fast, stylish, satisfying chaos. 10/10. Would die stylishly in Neo-Tokyo forever.

I’ll admit, I absolutely suck at top down/isometric games that are fast-paced, especially when they mix in an action arcade, arena style hack and slash approach. That said, this is a solid game, gameplay is where it really shines, and that’s what matters most in titles like these. The soundtrack, atmosphere, and art style are fantastic, giving off strong Ghost in the Shell vibes that I love. What really keeps me hooked is how easy it is to jump back in I can take a break for a while, remember the mechanics instantly, and pick up right where I left off. Sure, you kind of have to restart every time you die, but that’s part of the fun it makes every run feel fresh. The mechanics feel great and for some reason I prefer keyboard for more accurate shooting compared to a controller. Give it a go, I know I’ll keep coming back to this one until I finally beat it.
