Completed as of writing this review: Base Game (Normal Difficulty) To be honest I'm not familiar much with AVGN but I still appreciate his existence for making a revolution of video game reviews, that were made entirely in-house. These were before him but only he was able to popularize it. Anyway, the game is pretty good. Mostly what you would expect from an indie game released in early 2010's. The stages are vibrant, colorful, pretty fine challenge-wise (my fave is Happy Fun Candy Time). The bosses were what I didn't really like, as they required you to learn a pattern pixel by pixel, but that's expected from a game based on games from late 1980's. The music was bangin' though. The humor and gore-y nature is what you would expect from an indie game from this time and it was all mostly funny due to how absurd it could be. Of course not exactly everything is all that fun. The death blocks are the biggest offender in some of the stages for example. But the stage that truly got on my nerves is the very last one. I can understand the fact that it tries to be as retro as possible with the difficulty but this one stage was too much. I barely got through it, okay fine, but the final boss was the worst thing in this game. One of the most unfair bosses I've ever had trouble with. Even if I knew the pattern, it was still not enough. Eventually I just used one spot where he was barely able to reach me and only that let me beat him. Still that's not enough, as there are difficulties that only people with too much free time can master, so the game is not fair all things considered. Even with 30 lives I am done with this game. I know people will say that it was "my fault by setting the game to normal" but all of the stages were not nerve-wrecking to this extent. Hopefully the developers have learned their lesson in the sequel. I can't recommend this game to an average fan of platformers just because of this moment alone but I'm still giving it a like because everything else was pretty fun!

If you are a fan of the show you'll enjoy all the references. This is a good game overall. The game as good controls, looks nice, and is fun. If you haven'r play this game or its sequel, buy the AVGN 1+2 double pack. It's both games together, and is absolutely worth the price. Grab it when its on sale. You'll be glad you did.

This game is so hard, it would actually be easier to go outside in a thunderstorm and try to dodge rain. It would be easier to walk barefoot, without your toes or heels touching the floor. It'd be easier to pick fly shit out of pepper... while wearing boxing gloves! Very fun game, especially for AVGN fans!

What the **** was AVGN thinking? Simply put, this game is a love letter to anyone who grew up playing 8-bit and 16-bit games of the 80s and 90s. You know, the games that AVGN is famous for reviewing and raging. And this game has plenty of "Nintendo-hard" mechanics and difficulty and just plain cheese that will make you swear in ways you never thought possible. This game even comes up with new and creative ways for you to string vulgar words together in complete sentences. But then you'll laugh it off and start right back up until you finally beat the level, the boss, and then eventually the whole game and it will all have been worth it. Mega Man, Mario, Zelda, Castlevania are just some of the series that this game pays homage to, although I'm sure there are plenty of others too. Fans of AVGN's show will fit right at home here with all sorts of references and inside jokes from the show. If you haven't watched his show, go on YouTube and watch some episodes before getting this game. You'll understand why soon enough. This game is very replayable, with multiple difficulty levels as well as hidden characters you can play as. I didn't even find all of the hidden characters in my first playthrough and only found out about the ones I missed after watching AVGN review his own game.
