Why you should or should not play Animal Shelter 2 What is Animal Shelter 2? In this game your goal is to help the animals in the area and then help them get adopted to compatible homes! Okay- don't make me test my limits game." -"OMG LOOK HOW CUTE THIS DOG IS I CANNOT." Beginner Player Friendly? There are some aspects of this game that are a little bit confusing, however once you get the hang of everything I would argue that this game is beginner players friendly. There is a tutorial that helps you figure out what steps to take and how to take them. Game Play: In this game you have just opened and repaired your very own animal shelter! You can decorate, upgrade and manage your shelter to whatever you feel is the best way to do it. The decoration aspect is very free and you can place things wherever, however you want! The animal aspect is very personal, you can walk your pet at the local park, or you can groom them in your own animal washing station. You can also design their cage however you feel necessary with various types of items. There is much to explore in this revised version of this game! Graphics: The graphics have improved since the last game and the animals and their behaviors have become more realistic. The environment feels like an actual animal shelter would. Once the repairs start your animal shelters building starts to look beautiful. Everything about this game has been very improved since Animal Shelter 1! I believe this game could run on medium end systems. Community: The Animal Shelter community have always been very kind and supportive, writing all sorts of guides and making YouTube videos as well! Everyone seems like they would be kind and answer questions if needed. How long can you play? So far I have played around an hour and a half as of writing this review. I believe I will be able to get way more time out of this game as I loved the first one, I believe that there is no real 'completion' to this game and realistically you can play for an infinite amount of hours. I can picture myself playing for 10+ hours no problem! My Opinion: In my opinion I think they need to add horses again, and farm animals and then this will be the best Animal Shelter style game out there. I believe if you like animals and being a manager of a facility you may enjoy this game. Animal Shelter 2 has proven itself to be a mostly positive experience for me. There are both positives and negatives about this game, along with some things I wish existed from the first game. Positives: • I love how there are different breeds of animals even within its own categories. Such as different catbreeds, different dogbreeds and even different rodents. • It is a chill game where you can just waste away a few hours trying to get as many animals as possible into the best homes possible, as long as you know how to play. • The little interventions you can have to find animals in different circumstances around the city is a great addition to get a bit more lore to each and every animal and make things a bit more randomized than to specifically get a specific cat, dog or rodent type that is already displayed on the map. • It is so wonderful to see so many different personalities in the animals compared to the first game. It truly makes each and every animal somewhat unique. • I love how much more in depth the clinic is in this game. You actually have to go through a proper investigation rather than just tops drawing blood and putting it in a mailbox. Sometimes if I really want to help animals, it makes me happy to play pretend and just adopt the sick animals due to it. • I really like the randomized events throughout the game. It makes you have to take care of the grounds a bit rather than just cleaning up random dirty spots. • In the first game it used to stress me out a bit about how to make the best layout possible of the entire shelter. I am glad that now, I just need to worry about the placement of the cages in the rooms. Negatives: • I think things have gone a bit overboard with the texturing in this game. Grass pokes through the floor of the building, even shorthaired dogs such as pugs look like fluffy gremlins as each hair is individually applied to the animal in such a way it is yanky. In some of the animals, it's a great thing. But some are simply not supposed to be fluffy. • In the game, random people can show up in the lobby to wish to hand an animal over. While this is a GREAT addition, love it, there is no clear indication of when this happens. That means that while you may be busy doing something on the other side of the shelter, there is a special event happening in the lobby that you simply miss because you are renovating the cages. If there was say a doorbell sounding off whenever a visitor arrived of any kind, it could give you a reason to check by the lobby more often, or to have an employee be a receptionist and send you a notification. • I miss certain animals from the first games, namely the horses. I do hope that we will have the opportunity of helping farm animals in the future and that we will see different breeds and colour variations in those too. In Animal Shelter 1 there seemed to be such a huge randomizer on the colours of the horses, it felt like a pleasant surprise every time I would ring one in. Due to it, it is rather tempting to go back to the first game even if it is in many ways worse, just for that one animal type. • The animations are yanky. It is for the most part just amusing to see, but it has ended up in softlocking moments where an inspector is stuck, or if an animal gets stuck on one pixel of the floor and therefore can't access the food and water in their cage. People are clipping through placed furniture and sits down on top of animals as they kneel down to greet them. • There is a legit way of softlocking your entire playthrough if you do not follow the missions to a tee in the beginning and adopt out an animal before the mission tells you to. There are no more animals to adopt at that point and it leaves you with the only option to reboot an older save-file or start over. All in all, it's a great game that I can't recommend enough if you love animals and can look past a few bugs! I am sure that with time, such bugs will be worked out, and I am looking forward to more breeds, more animals and more improvements being made!
I was a bit wary to get Animal Shelter 2 after playing Animal Shelter 1 many times and struggling with clunky gameplay and bugs. Animal Shelter 2 is such an improvement on the first game! I'll just list pros and cons to this game. Pros: -I love the diversity of dog and cat breeds available in the base game with variations that I'm still discovering new ones. -Pet wants are not too hard to figure out and take care of. -Employees have a decent AI, other than letting dogs out of their cages all the time, they make my life much easier. Even the lazy employees. -I like the interventions and park that you can go to. -Your shelter is customizable but not TOO customizable! I don't have to stress about shuffling buildings around like I did in the last game. -Puppies and kittens are part of the base game! Woohoo! -Floppy ears when you pet them! DLC: -Vet DLC is SO MUCH better than the one in the first game. The first game's vet DLC is almost unplayable. -Vet DLC Animals seem to be decently manageable when they're sick. I haven't had any get taken away because I wasn't able to care for them in time. -Little friends DLC runs smoothly but isn't as interesting to me as the vet one so I haven't rescued as many small animals as I could have. The rodents seem pretty self sufficient, though, as long as they have food/water/clean bedding and a petting every now and then, they are content. Cons: -My employees change appearance when they come into work every day, like hair and skin tone. It can be a little confusing. -Notifications can easily be missed if you're busy and they are vague when you go back to check on the tablet. Just something like "An animal is ready for adoption" and not more specific like "Ozzy is ready for adoption." -Quests stay popped up for seemingly forever in the left side. It's easy to ignore but can be a tad annoying. -When adopters randomly arrive to see about adopting animals, the notification isn't noticeable enough. I've literally only managed to catch a surprise visitor once and it was because another adopter was already visiting! -I'd rather the notifications have more of a permanent spot on the screen than the quests! Overall I think this is a great game if you enjoy simulation games and helping animals! I worked with a vet at an animal rescue during a time in college and greatly enjoyed it. This game brings back fond memories without the too sad parts of animal rescue.
I love this game, especially compared to the previous one. I adore the addition of rodents and ferrets, I'm hoping we'll see the horses again, along with other farm animals and maybe birds and reptiles too. I love how the game is now more interactive and easier to understand. I look foward to seeing more animals and updates in the future!
