It's impossible to image that someone would create a game like this in 1991. The graphics still nice and animations too. This game has better cutscenes than some Ubisoft games

Sole designer, programmer, and artist for Another World Éric Chahi stated that he designed the levels of Another World randomly. If this is indeed the case, then I profess him a genius. If one were to propose a checklist of all that games should aspire to achieve, I venture that no game would fare a better chance of ticking all of the boxes than another world. Without spilling the proverbial beans, its narrative is beautiful, and is told only through the context of the medium. No words are spoken, for they are not needed. The world is obtuse and alien, building this unending sense of dread and confusion, and aligning the player with the state of our protagonist. Puzzles are smartly woven into this world, each designed with a narrative quality that builds upon the previous two strengths. They are not all incredible puzzles, but a criminal quantity are. Another World is the genesis of Fumito Ueda’s design by subtraction, implemented perhaps more effectively than he ever has. Kojima cites it for Metal Gear Solid (though I cannot see much resemblance beyond the first entry). Another World is one of those games wherein you see the brilliance that later inspired games with which you are already smitten, but in it you also see these ideas implemented with greater excellence. I can conceive no higher praise than that.

This beautiful game was released in November 1991, the same month and year I was released. While I've changed over the past three decades, this game stays the same. Sometimes it seems like a thing can change just because its surroundings change. Someday I'll be gone, and it will still be here. It's a really lovely little thing. It's difficult and funny. It reminds me to not be stuck in my ways, and to not stick too closely to the formula, because you never know what the formula will be 30 years from now. It reminds me to make art and tell stories, because you never know who might just happen to be born the same time that your art is released, and they imprint on it forever. Thanks for being there with me, Another World. Here's to another 30 years!

As a child I never beat this game. I'm aware if you know all the solutions within the game it would take less than 15 mins to beat this game. As an adult this was worth $10 to me. Finally beating a game (found out I was only 30 seconds away from beating it as a child after I beat it today) I never completed before. Did it in an hour as well. Glad I got to relive the experience. Now time to watch a speedrunner do this in 6 mins.

This has been a favorite game of mine since I played the SNES version. The feeling of being disconnected in a mostly lonely and alien atmosphere, all while attempting to fumble your way through survival with ideas and guesswork feels relatable. The art style opens imagination with it's shadowed beasts and imperfect shapes as you explore your surroundings, where the only clear goal is to keep moving.
