This game is seriously addictive. After you unlock the second hotel it gets to the point where you literally can’t put it down for a second. Collecting materials and getting all the requirements for items is super easy and it doesn’t make the game feel anything annoying. The visuals are insanely pretty and i just love walking around the map. And the characters? Their designs are sick! Still not boring at all and i can’t see it getting repetitive anytime soon. Totally worth it.
Bear and Breakfast is a very sweet game about a bear with a heart that’s too big for his own good, exploitation, and, to my surprise, gods . It also incorporates the theme of environmental pollution effectively by having you constantly collect trash and use it as currency. The contrast between humans and animals is strongly emphasized, something I personally really appreciate, it gives the game more depth than it initially appears to have. After all, it looks like a cute hotel management game featuring adorable (and derpy) animals. Yet, towards the end, there is more to the story than meets the eye, a pleasant surprise. It is a bit of a shame, however, that this aspect was so brief and wasn't fleshed out a little more,for instance, by allowing you to discuss the matter further with the relevant NPCs. [*]The game itself has a very slow pace, though how slow or fast it feels depends on your experience with the genre. Personally, I found the pace very pleasant, it was a great way to lay back and shut down my brain. If you aren't the type to pick up everything along the way (like I am), the game could likely become quite tedious and drag on even longer, so I recommend collecting everything you see. You’ll have to specifically hunt for mahogany planks toward the end anyway, as it’s required for almost all the good "endgame" items. [*]The maps can be a bit annoying at times because you frequently get stuck on rocks or bushes, but otherwise, they are incredibly detailed, and I really enjoyed exploring every last corner. In some spots, especially at night, the game gave off serious spooky vibes in the woods, effectively underscored by the sound design. Sometimes I wasn't sure if a jumpscare was about to happen, because the woods felt "too real". Amazing experience overall with sound design. [*]What I loved most about the game, however, is the hand-drawn art style and character designs, which was clearly crafted with a lot of love! (Big points for Hank’s ear-wiggling and the derpy meme faces everywhere!!) Every cutscene is accompanied by lovingly drawn images that perfectly capture the game's atmosphere and personally inspired me to try drawing in a simpler style myself. It was a bit of a shame tho that some NPCs were barely used (Anni and Will for example, I really loved those two.) . But I still laughed a lot and had a really good time with all the small NPC interactions. Anyone interested in this kind of game who has a bit of patience will have a great time with it! I did encounter the occasional bug here and there (guests vanishing into thin air while half-naked, clipping into walls, or a rain sound glitch), but I was able to easily overlook them and still have a great experience. <3 Also big thank you to the person for the "put the Door outside" trick, really helped a lot with better room placing! ]/i]
A charming experience throughout, with a great cosy vibe in it's presentation. Especially the main character bear is just an endearing bumbling delight without ever getting annoying. The game delivers on it's premise rather well, and manages to stay quite charming throughout, with a nice cast of wildly varying supporting characters. I've seen a good chunk of the game, unlocking what I think are all major areas. But I'm far from having done it all. So if you really enjoy it, there is a bunch much more playtime to be had setting up, decorating and running a good variety of locations. Honestly, I got only two noteworthy nit-picks: 1. Navigating Menus especially when crafting and cooking is tiresome, and feels like it could have benefited from a few more iterations. 2. I don't like how the game pushes you into luxury renovating all your locations if you want quality of life unlocks. It's not unreasonable design wise, but I felt like I'm gentrifying my own escapism fantasy. But in the end, I'd say Bear and Breakfast is very much worth checking out if the premise appeals to you^^
A great, relaxing game that plays well with a controller, allowing you to explore the map and complete various quests. It's fairly linear, and many quests can only be unlocked after completing previous ones. The dialogue and visual style are lovely, and you immediately feel welcome. There's also a bit of hotel simulation, including decorating the interiors of your inn. The areas are beautiful, and fast travel keeps the walking distances manageable. Highly recommended for relaxing gaming sessions.
