Nowadays, it's pretty difficult to make a metroidvania feel different from the rest. Every single game developer is either trying to make another Dead Cells or Castlevania. The people at Team Ladybug have been the only developers to my knowledge that so far, have made ALL of their metroidvanias feel different from the rest in the market, and actively distinct from the other products they've released themselves. I'm proud to say that i've played and completed 100% of all of their steam released games. It saddens me to see negative reviews comparing this to castlevania and the such. This isn't castlevania. This is it's own unique thing, with its own gimmicks and pacing. Just the fact that you can explore about 80 to 90% of the game world by playing without driving the plot forward is refreshing. The fact that there are puzzles where you have to take advantage of the teleporting system to reach certain places bent my mind when i first found out you could do that. Plus, the combat is simple to understand and can be hard to master if you throw yourself into some tougher foes at lower levels, but never unfair. There will always be some mud chewing clown that will try to insult this game for not being like (insert other metroidvania), let those morons eat their slop. Meanwhile i'm gonna hang out in the winners circle and play some Blade Chimera. You people are a boon for the video game world. Keep doing your own thing.

Bladechimera is a really good game. Maybe it isn't a 10/10 game but I have a ton fun with it. I don't really get all the negative reviews, Bladechimera has a really pretty graphics, music and is for a change a Metroidvania where you mainly shoot, while melee is also possible. The real fun begins later in the game, after about 5 hours in, when the story picks up, you got more skills/weapons to play around with and... the difficulty also finally picks up. Early game is a tick easy, too easy for me. But in the later parts of the game, it really starts to get more interesting, from a difficulty perspective. Not unfair but challenging enough. The early game is pretty strait forward and... for a Metroidvania pretty guided and on rails. You get told where to go to, and while there are side areas... they usually only have pickups like those Puzzle Pieces. While I expect in a Metroidvania freedom to explore with not that much hand-holding usually and Bladechimera is pretty much on rails the whole time the action is good, there are allot secrets and how to get them and it sports a good story that makes you think at spots. I especially enjoy that you have a choice between guns, throwing weapons and melee weapons. This is actually a major reason I picked up Bladechimera and it is one of few Metroidvanias where you have actual shooting and not only melee. The bosses are also a real treat, they look great and are fun to fight. Though most of them are not that nail-biting hard like in a Dark Souls game, I was really entertained and challenged towards the latter part of the game.

Alchemetic Formula For Excellence 1. A dab of Shin Megami Tensei 2. A sprinkling of Shadowrun/Cyber-Punk 3. Two table spoons of Symphony Of The Night 4. A pinch of Metal Gear Revengeance 5. A flickering of Devil May Cry (Enchanted sentient sword with an assortment of guns!) 6. Crank up the rizz soundtrack that could be mistaken as a Yuzo Koshiro tribute compilation to harmonize the fusion process 7. Wear safety gloves to remove the perfect gemrald from its' crystalline encasement! For you if. +You like metroidvanias of the classic variety (Such as the ones showcased in Konami's recent Castlevania DS collection or the Gal Guardian games by Inti Creates.) +You have enjoyed Lady Bug's previous works. (Lunar nights,Wonder Labyrinth, etc.) +You are more fond of the journey than rushing to the finish line. +You are appreciative of a few new ideas while being equally appreciative of established fundamentals that just work. Not for you if -You speed-run metroidvanias without taking your time to uncover all the nooks and crannies off the beaten path. -You prefer metroidvanias with newer design philosophies and unique aesthetics behind them. (More Akin to Hollow Knight or Sundered.) -You want a metroidvania on a truly grandiose scale. (Something more like After Image or Frontier Hunter Ezra's Wheel Of Fortune) -You prefer romanticized gothic horror/gothic fantasy overtones over a cyber-punk futuristic setting. (Vigil The Longest Night,Ender Lilies,Bloodstained Ritual Of The Night, etc.)

Really want to like this more, and I do like it, but I just think that the level design could be a lot better. There's a lot of long, flat hallways filled with the exact same enemies that are just an absolute slog to get through. Still actively playing this but it hasn't drawn me in immediately.

Great metroidvania for beginners, for a huge reason: the "teleport anywhere on the map" ability. Unlock that first, then you can conquer the game screen by screen, without backtracking, while exploring at your own pace. Combat is awesome, platforming is fine, aerial acrobatics are accessible, the story is interesting.... Even if you don't usually play metroidvanias, try this one.
