It's a typical real-time-tactics capture the control points game, with a bit deeper simulation. [...] AI knows when it is being seen by the officers, instantly attacking them. All the tanks with all the different guns have the same range, which is only a little bit bigger than the LoS. The tiniest cars with the smallest machineguns have the same range as the biggest emplaced cannons. Only artillery have its variety of ranges. There's no black fog of war, and the maps are assembled from templates, so you memorize the gun positions very fast and can just fire blindly with your artillery. [...] The game simulates LoS, but it doesn't simulate firing lines. All the units shoot through walls without destroying them. Short TTK is good and fun when the game is perfectly responsive and your units precisely execute your orders. But in this game the unit AI is beyond braindead. Your controls are not very precise, and then your units just don't execute your orders anyway, and do that with weak feedback. If you select your compact group tanks and attack-move send them somewhere, one will rush forward and die alone, two will jump into trenches and get destroyed by the infantry, three will ride on the very edge of the map, four will get lost between two trees, five will be forever stuck inside each other and other units, and six will ride arse-backwards with their 15mm armour towards the enemy and 155mm front armour towards your base. It's is hard to even describe how bad the pathfinding is and how unresponsive and stupid the units are. [...] While the game does not succeed in creating the value CoH offered to super casual players — pretence of deep tactics for elderly beer-belly couch potatoes with opinions about migrants. The fantasy is still there, if you engage with the game on normal and above difficulties. For normal functional adults playing on easy is still viable. It's not too easy, yet you don't have to use the broken mechanics almost at all. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3463795207 [url=https://milkandhate.wordpress.com/2025/05/02/%d0%b1%d0%bb%d0%b8%d1%86%d0%ba%d1%80%d0%b8%d0%b3-blitzkrieg-2003/]Блицкриг 6/10 Total Challenge - Neue Missionen für Blitzkrieg Total Challenge II: Das Add-On zu Blitzkrieg Блицкриг: Операция «Север» Total Challenge III: Das Add-On zu Blitzkrieg Blitzkrieg: Burning Horizon Total Challenge IV: Das Add-On zu Blitzkrieg Blitzkrieg: Rolling Thunder Total Challenge V: Das Add-On zu Blitzkrieg Mission Barbarossa Green Devils Iron Division

I cannot recommend this game enough. Not only does it have a vast array of historical battles, but the campaign variance is fantastic. From sleepy French towns to a snowy Ardenne forest during the Battle of the Bulge, to the North African Campaign. The sprite design of the units makes this timeless, in my opinion. The vehicles and units are also historically accurate, so you won't be seeing any King Tigers in Normandy. One of the most compelling parts of the game is the battlefield damage. After firing wave after wave of artillery, towns become filled with burning buildings, vehicles, and corpses. As for the combat itself, there are some things that are interesting for the time this game was produced, particularly line of sight. Crossing a bridge without due diligence can wipe out a unit without even seeing the enemy, due to them being on high ground. Choosing the right time to use a certain class of air support also adds flavor to the combat, and things can turn sour quickly if you ignore enemy AA guns. The only real pain points come with AI pathfinding. Often, if you're being pushed by a squadron of tanks, you may have time to vacate, only for a half-track vehicle to block half your army. Infantry units can also be a source of frustration, although it's a neat mechanic how a group of people can knock a track off a tank and leave it stationary. Rather than retreat with your squad, random members may decide to walk into enemy lines. If you're not keeping a close eye on this, it can be pretty frustrating to see a notification that a prime unit has been destroyed - only to learn it was your sniper walking in the front door of a heavily guarded compound. A feature for finding a specific unit is needed, especially for enormous maps with battles taking place in each corner. The game rewards patience, and it never gets old to plan an assault and execute it perfectly. Managing the logistics of a war is a concept not seen much in other games. Your ammo supply trucks are as important as a tank. I would mention that crashing has been an issue for many users, but I have not experienced any problems personally. The random challenges also add some flavour, for example, a mission may require you capture a crossroads, being too slow won't fail the mission but may triple the threat and give the enemy prime line of sight; there's this sort of pseudo dynamicness which can keep it fresh. It's probably worth noting that time pressure is a mechanic used throughout which may dissuade some people - whether that be holding off reinforcements or capturing/destroying X quickly.

Pros: - A classic in it's genre, no rushing: Just take it slow and steady - The weapons and equipment are historically authentic (You won't see a Panther in 1940, nor a Matilda I in 1944) - Shows some underrated and not-as-known parts of WW2 (Scandinavia, Poland, Finland, Battle for France, North Africa, The Pacific) - Solid animations - Arty is the king of the battlefield, and this game proves that - Air support isn't just one click and boom, you have to put some thought where and when you call for it, and for what kind - Solid Soundtrack and sound design - Great mods Cons: - CRAZY PATHFINDING, IT IS HORRIBLE - The game is badly optimized, and thus it crashes a lot (sometimes random, sometimes at very specific points, sometimes multiple times in one mission) - Arty can get stuck from time to time while un-lumbering - Infantry (minus the sniper) is generally useless, unless in large numbers and supported by your whole army - "Side" missions can get repetitive Overall, a certified hood classic 8/10
