Lovely game, holds up pretty great. I would say that the positioning click could use some work namely for actually properly giving the dots proper positioning and not standing in front of cover, but its an old game so those are acceptable pathing issues. Would recommend 100% get it even if not on sale.

Before this game, most RTS titles were about gathering wood and gold to build a massive army. Relic Entertainment flipped that on its head, focusing instead on "territory control" and "tactical positioning." The result is a game that feels incredibly visceral and high-stakes. Every hedgerow, brick wall, and bombed-out building in Normandy matters. It turned the battlefield into a living, breathing puzzle where a single well-placed anti-tank gun or a daring flanking maneuver by a squad of paratroopers could turn the tide of an entire match. Even decades later, the physics and destructibility in this game are more impressive than many modern titles. Seeing a Tiger tank crash through a stone wall or watching a mortar shell leave a permanent crater in the road isn't just visual flair—it’s a core part of the gameplay. The "Essence Engine" created a level of cinematic immersion that was unheard of in 2006, making every skirmish feel like a scene pulled straight out of Saving Private Ryan. Great RTS, not too intense but not a cakewalk either. The campaigns are memorable and engaging, driven by high stakes and an intense atmosphere. PvP and PvE multiplayer games are still active too, which was a pleasant surprise. Almost all cover can be destroyed which adds a new degree of tactics along with an element of narrative to each battle as it rages on. Sound design is awesome, and the musical stingers are well done. Base building isn't a huge part of the game, which allows you to focus more on your troops as you pick fights and move around. The AI can give you a proper challenge even on Hard, but Expert is where you might start to break into a cold sweat. Definitely a must-try if you're a fan of RTS, but it's also a very good introduction to the genre. Very cheap during Steam sales, and it'll run on weaker machines as well.
