I remember when Blockland had a little rivalry with Roblox. I joined the latter in the later months of 2009. Was a more hopeful and optimistic time. Both game engines at the time embodied this strong Lego-like presentation that just so utterly captivated my correspondingly younger self's desire for a sense of scale that was, frankly, beyond anything that I could ever hope to envision with my own Lego collection. It seemed right to hang on to Roblox. It was progressing. It was shiner. New features, new content. Blockland had none of that going for it, it fact it essentially withered out and died not too long after I had long considered it to be not worth the bother as it didn't work on my (then) Windows XP system. Problem was, the man behind Roblox is a snake in human form. Must have done a deal with the devil sometime in the 2020s. Everywhere I look, years after I took something of a long break from it -- no part of it had escaped the Orwellian hellscape that it had become. The entire platform demands for your biometric data in the name of 'safety' to even communicate with other people. Can't even share my freaking creations with anyone anymore. If only it' died' like Blockland. Blockland allows you to talk with other people like how it always had been, and you can absolutely still show off your cool things if you do manage to set up a server and what not. The building is clunky and unintuitive, much contrary to what I prefer what I'm used to in Roblox. But nearly seventeen years after just about everyone had forgotten that there was a little rivalry in suns long forgotten, a prevailing truth has been revealed. Blockland won by sheer virtue of not being managed by that snake.
