Broken Reality 2000 is a vaporwave drenched walking simulator that's very similar to the first entry. However, this time it takes cues from aughts and 10's culture, with a few jabs taken at today's internet affairs as well. The vibes are a little similar to BR1, but of course it takes on a more Frutiger-Aero inspiration. Since that aesthetic is naturally more hopeful/optimistic, the vibes of this game sort of follow suit. Be warned, though. Since the game just released (at the time of writing), there are a few nasty bugs (I'm not talking about the big pink ones in the game!) which cause you to get stuck on terrain and softlock. Luckily, at the currently moment the devs are very much listening to our feedback, and have done things such as make walking speed faster in certain areas and added the long awaited unstuck button! Simply because of how committed the devs are to their work of art, I'd highly recommend this one if you're longing to revisit the 2000's...

I've been having a blast playing this game so far and I know I haven't even gotten to the really good stuff yet. Bizarre and strange games like this are my absolute favorite. Adding more to my review I have to say the game is really stunning, the graphics are gorgeous and I absolutely LOVE it. The devs did an amazing job, and I hope they continue to make more games and I will continue to support them.

BR2000 is an improvement and step up from BR in almost every way, but both have a distinct charm to them. In BR there was more of a PSX, vapor wave, late 80's to 90's aesthetics and graphics, while BR2000 leans into the Dreamcast/Y2K era. Playing the first game isn't required, but definitely enhances the enjoyment and I would personally recommend it if possible. The characters are so fun and interesting, the locales are beautiful, the puzzles are fairly understandable and you always feel like there's something to do. It's essentially a metroidvania, so you'll be backtracking with new abilities often, but progression is fluid and there's so much to scan, see, pick-up and find, it doesn't get stale. It is a bit of a collect-a-thon, but like the games of the era, its balanced to keep giving those quick hits of dopamine with every photo and picked up like, without making it a chore and rewarding exploration. The music is amazing and I'm surprised there isn't a soundtrack to purchase alongside. It takes over a dozen hours to complete with 2 endings and entertaining enough to warrant multiple playthroughs. It's also amazing that in the big 2026, where games are being sold for $70-$80, that games with this much value, love, and soul exist and are being released for $15! Support indie games!

This is a positive reccomendation with caveats. If you have already played Broken Reality then this is an easy recommend, if you're just after more broken reality. To anyone else I would implore you to play the original Broken Reality first. My personal thoughts on the game is that it's significantly weaker than the first. Gone is the feeling of unease, suspense and dread that the first game had, opting for a more cheerful experience. In terms of art design they have gone for a "frutiger aero" style compared to the first games vaporwave, though they have kept some of the vaporwave aesthetic which i feel is at odds with the new style. Humor is still quite meme focused, though I feel will age slightly faster than the originals. There are multiple locations in the first game that would illicit an emotional response from me, whereas I can only count 1 memorable location in 2000, that being the musuem (it is quite good though). I don't know how I feel about the story to be honest, what I can say is that I felt dissapointed with the true ending. My personal thoughts is that Broken Reality was lightning in a bottle, and Dynamic Media Triad tried, but weren't succesfull in replicating it.

Honestly, I haven't been this excited for a game in a long time. The first one was a true masterpiece. Ended up wasting the entire day watching the clock and refreshing the steam page every few minutes constantly dragging myself away from what I actually needed to do :D God, I love these developers so much. Everything I've played so far - every scene, every moment, every location - is just pure joy. There's excitement EVERYWHERE. On one hand it all feels so familiar because the first game is just top-tier and I spent so much time with it purely because of vibes, vibes, vibes. But on the other hand, everything here is SO pretty and cozy. A couple thoughts on the sound design, though. The first game for sure had more of the vibe. It's good here too but it'd be even better with just.. more of it. The best and the finest game in the whole internet-aesthetic space with a real focus on my beloved vaporwave.
