Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles is an unusual and atmospheric take on the city-building genre, shifting its focus away from rigid optimization and instead embracing an almost meditative style of construction. Set in the flooded, windswept world of the Ursee—introduced previously in The Falconeer—the game trades aerial combat for architectural experimentation. You begin with nearly nothing: a surveyor ship, a lonely outpost, and a horizon filled with mist and towering fragments of rock. From these sparse beginnings, you slowly stitch together a sprawling network of walkways, platforms, towers, and settlements suspended above the ocean. The overarching narrative is one of rebuilding and reclamation, but the game is less concerned with storytelling and more interested in giving you space to shape the world at your own pace. At the heart of the experience is a freeform construction system that encourages experimentation over precision. Instead of snapping neatly into a rigid grid or forcing you into strict resource bottlenecks, the building tools allow you to organically extend your fortress outward—bridges curve gracefully, towers sprout at uneven angles, and platforms stack in irregular shapes that give your settlement a unique silhouette. Resources like stone, iron, and wood are gathered automatically once you’ve connected your outpost to extractor sites, and from there the game becomes a gentle exercise in expanding your reach and maintaining a steady supply flow. The emphasis is on creativity rather than efficiency, and this relaxed approach makes the act of building feel fluid and expressive rather than mechanical. Atmosphere is one of the game’s greatest strengths. The Ursee is rendered with a painterly sense of scale, with harsh skies, shifting seas, and distant ruins emerging from fog. The visual style is distinctive—clean, sharp, and heavily stylized—giving each structure a striking contrast against the ocean. The soundscape reinforces this contemplative mood: distant thunder, the low hum of machinery, and subdued ambient music contribute to the feeling of quiet resilience. As your fortress grows, there’s a strong sense of carving something monumental out of an empty and dangerous world, and that emotional texture is one of the most memorable aspects of Bulwark. However, the tranquility of the experience also highlights its limitations. Because the focus is so firmly placed on creative construction, the strategic depth is relatively shallow. Combat exists, but only lightly; encounters lack the tension or tactical challenge found in more traditional strategy titles. Exploration is present but not especially dynamic, and much of the game’s progression follows a soft, self-directed arc rather than a structured campaign. This makes Bulwark ideal for players who enjoy open-ended creativity but less appealing for those who want clear goals, demanding resource management, or layered systems. Despite these constraints, the game carves out a distinctive niche. It offers something few city-builders attempt: a calm, unhurried sandbox where the pleasure lies in shaping a world rather than conquering it. The interface is intuitive once mastered, and the game plays smoothly whether you use a mouse or a controller. It runs well on a variety of hardware, including handheld PCs, and its simple logic systems make it approachable even for genre newcomers. For players who enjoy designing elaborate fortresses, creating visually striking settlements, or losing themselves in a world that moves at a soothing pace, Bulwark provides a compelling and memorable experience. Those seeking challenge or complexity may drift away sooner, but for anyone drawn to creativity, exploration, and atmosphere, this is a uniquely satisfying journey across the endless Ursee. Very unique game. Great atmosphere. Feels great on controller. If the game doesn't make sense at first just keep experimenting, it's worth it. Lots of small hidden mechanics, very rewarding. I dont normally like to buy full price games but this is the type of game/dev I'll gladly give my money to. Worth whatever you pay for it.

Very much a yes BUT kind of game. I didn't really enjoy is but not going to refund or down vote because its such a unique work of art. Most impressive of all is the procedural building. You just simply right click and it very intelligently constructs and follows terrain. I was very impressed by it and doubly so because its a single dev game. It is a slow paced and relaxing game, For me I just did not vibe with the controls and mechanics. Its an easy recommend however as its a unique experience and I want to see what the dev can do with more money and the experience he has gained.

You reach an unbeatable, invincible state about an hour into any playthrough. After that, just do whatever. And frankly: just do whatever to become invincible, it's very easy & intuitive. Not a challenge whatsoever. Got airships though. Edit: I can't read tags. Game was marketed as relaxing. Game is relaxing.

I love cityskylines/city building games but it could be over complicated sometimes. This game is the casual chill version of those games. It has a lot of potential both lorewise and gameplay. So excited for future content the dev has to offer.
