Cold War is the absolute peak of CoD movement. Not too slow, not too fast. Beautiful gunplay, mostly well-balanced. As of this review in May 2026, multiplayer is still active except in the very early hours of the mornings. You will be able to find matches anytime on Nuketown 24/7 and most of the time on TDM and Demolition. Party games also are still very good on this game. Sticks n Stones, Gun Game, and Prop Hunt are all still active. The bad... like a lot of CoD titles, they stop caring about cheating once the year cycle ends. At this point, cheaters have absolutely destroyed the SnD commuinity which is a shame because BOCW had the absolute best maps and game mechanics for SnD. I am bias, but I play this game a ton and have for years. If you're looking for a CoD to grind and stay with, I can say this is a good one. If you're looking to have FUN playing CoD, this is 100% the one. Just beware that you're going to run into some cheaters, you're going to get booted out of some lobbies, you're going to experience occasional server issues and random weird bugs that are a part of playing a largely unsupported game. And lastly, to Activision. If you happen to read this review, just know that I have pure hatred to the depths of my soul for how you just abandon games that made 10s of millions of dollars. Assigning a small team to support old CoD games is really the least you leeches could do. But until someone gets doxxed and murdered because of your negligence and you have to pay the family a fat settlement, nothing will happen. Protect your community and your name.

Game has improved tremendously since launching over 5 years ago, and it wasn't a bad game to start. Strong campaign and fun multiplayer. This is a masterpiece compared to the slop Activision releases today,

Really great call-back to what call of duty was, and what call of duty should be. The whole game is a ton of fun. The campaign is cool and has an engaging story, the multiplayer feels fun (even for low skill gamers,) and the zombies mode is really well done. I love that you can do easy multiplayer progression through zombies so you can unlock any guns and attachments you want without having to compete against people that are way better than you. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this game at full price, it goes on sale frequently - I picked it up for $5.

Last good cod imo. The campaign is really good and zombies is a blast especially onslaught the mini boss rush mode. There is just something cool about the era of the time where this game is set with the guns and characters. The guns and movement feels just right and arcadey but is not overdone with the movement spam slop we have in the newer black ops now except sometimes matchmaking can be unbalanced at times. Too bad the newer cods these days is just a giant example of AAA corporate slop where no fun is allowed anymore.

Sometimes I reinstall this just for classic TDM (hardcore TDM is the best). I’m too old for F2P heroes shooters, not skilled enough for more realistic tactical FPS, can’t trust older CoDs on PC because they’re unsafe, and I refuse to pay $70 for a newer AI-generated copy-paste CoD. Cold War is still hits the spot.
