This is the best game ever made, but this port is not great, you need to install a couple of mods in order for this port to be considered decent. - Pixel Demaster (Fixes bad quality sprites and UI assets) - CTExt (Fixes the diagonal running stutter) - SNES Overworld Sprites Restoration (fixes the world map sprites) - Crono SNES Palette With Darker Border (fixes Crono's sprite color) - Woolsey Translation (Fixes translation to be more like the SNES version with more charm, personality and soul, adds Frog knight accent back which is the main thing the new versions ruined in my opinion) - Reshade (CRT Guest NTSC + FakeHDR + Vibrance + Vignette + ColorMAME), this combination of filters is perfect to emulate that SNES vibes With these mods installed the Steam version becomes very close to the SNES version which is the best version of the game.

One of the best J-RPGs of all time. I’d say this is the definitive way to play Chrono Trigger now. This Steam version includes the added content from the DS version, the PS1 cutscenes, QoL improvements, better translation, etc. This is the original game, no remake/remaster stuff going on, just a good port. Played through this version in entirety, it works nice, didn't have a single problem. All the growing pains from when it released are gone. It's become really stable and reliable. Can also confirm it works in widescreen (16:9), ultrawide (21:9), AND super-ultrawide (32:9). No weird stretching or whatnot, they updated the game to properly support wider displays. Also works great on the Steam Deck. Definitely worth picking up, especially if it's on sale.

Would I recommend Chrono Trigger to other players? Chrono Trigger should be mandatory gaming for everyone. They should make you play it in the fourth grade as part of general studies. It is one of the greatest games of all time.
