I thought I was just opening a game. But Clover Day's was never just a game. It was a quiet afternoon that never seemed to end, a fleeting spring that refused to fade, a memory I didn’t know I had… until it was placed gently into my hands. Every word felt like it was waiting for me. Every silence said more than it should. And somewhere between those ordinary days, my heart learned how to feel something deeper. And then Izumi. Not a heroine. Not just a route. But a presence. A warmth. Like sunlight slipping through curtains, soft, uninvited, yet impossible to ignore. I found pieces of myself in her voice, in the way she smiled, in the fragile honesty she carried without ever asking to be understood. It scared me, a little how something fictional could feel so real. When it ended, nothing around me had changed. The same room. The same screen. But somehow, I wasn’t the same person anymore. Maybe that’s what *Clover Day’s* truly is not a story you read, but a feeling you carry. A quiet kind of love. A gentle kind of pain. And a reminder that even the smallest days can stay with you forever.
Overall better than most other eroge, but with a huge problem: the protagonist is an immature monkey with zero filter between his monkey brain and his mouth/hands. I guess this is supposed to be funny, but not for me. This makes pretty much every route I've experienced so far off-putting to some degree. There are still a lot of moments that do make me laugh, like the comedy antics of the drama sub-group and constant slip-ups of tsundere characters (whom I normally hate, but for some reason in this game they appeal to me, probably because of good voice acting). I guess I could say there are more things I like about this game than the things I hate. No eroge I've experienced so far has managed to break the mold, but this one came close to doing that.
I will be frank. I don't really like the common route. But when I have arrived at the characters' route, my experience become much better. Like, ok, this is what rom-com-drama story should be. Especially the twins route, it has what to be expected. So in my case, poorly start, impressive (enough) closure.
Very pleasantly surprised. A lot of heart and care is put into everything and all. For a happy, good feeling visual novel, there are some good fitting somber moments in it to give it a memorable identity. A very pretty soundtrack with the visuals to back it up. The writing is very pervy which will put off some people if they're not into that style of humor but pushing through it is worth it for the genuine, heartwarming romance storytelling. It amuses me greatly that the best routes are the two sisters of the main protagonist but they're not at all related so it's fine lol (a small good chance one might end up on either of their routes accidentally but that's probably a good thing). It was a very good touch to be able to witness the reactions of the other characters when a route is pursued, a lot of broken hearted reactions which makes the route chosen impactful, even if it is sad. They all have to mature with the decisions made by others, which is surprising to see in this moege genre of visual novels. I do wish there were more interactions between the father and the maid, Shion; I found their interactions to have a very cute dynamic when they revealed how serious they were for each other. This is a very good read if you're feeling down. I really hope the other two Clover stories will get an English release some day (and some day soon).
