mean mister mustard -Real review- Ultimate Detective mode is a blast and I play all the time. There is a decent playerbase who make smart guesses and are fun and challenging opponents. However, Hasbro, DECREASE THE AMOUNT OF AI JOINING OUR LOBBIES!! Or even better turn them off entirely/give us the option to only match with real players. Every time I join a game and there are 5 AIs named "SassySnake135" I dip immediately. No real smart Clue player wants to sit through 3+ AI turns. We're here to be detectives, not babysitters LOL. That being said, great ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game just please turn down/off the AI.
Clue was my favorite board game growing up and probably still is. I played Marmalade Studios first rendition of this game and found it fun. This one is pretty enjoyable too with the various different settings, weapons, and suspects made out to fit into the settings. There is one issue I have noticed though and it involves the CPU controlled opponent AI. In one game (I was playing as Mustard on the Polar Station Level) the AI controlling Green went into the Submarine Dock and ended up making the same suggestion four times in a row then correctly accused the solution (which wasn't in the Sub Dock) without having gone anywhere else on the map. In another game (this time the Black Adder Resort Level) the AI controlling Sgt. Gray correctly suggested the solution on his first move then proceeded to NOT immediately accuse and I won the game when my turn was up (I was last to go). A look at the check sheets for the opponents after that showed that they had all deduced the solution that Gray had suggested but NONE of them accused when their turns were up. I was playing on Medium difficulty both times. The CPU opponent logic is sometimes very iffy in this game and can either result in frustrating losses or easy wins. I never had this issue with the first Clue game Marmalade made. This is still a fun game though and I do recommend it.
If you like the board game you'll love this! Its cool you can play against AI/friends/strangers and if someone sits idle for more than 10 seconds they get replaced with an AI so you don't have to wait a million years for them to take their turn. The DLC with the new locations and extra suspects is fun to play around with too.
Honestly, a great little detective game. There aren't a ton of open multiplayer games, but there seems to be JUST enough players that everytime I've made a lobby or was looking for one, I could find at least one, maybe two that matched my criteria. If you can't find a MP game, the AI players are well created so they don't ask stupid questions or things that don't make sense (like asking you the same question twice). Overall, I wouldn't pay a ton for this game. I think I got it on sale for less than $10 and that is a fair price for it. Anything more than that is robbery, and their DLC prices are right up there. It's INSANE how much they are charging for their DLC. Some suggestions for the dev team that I think would make this game better: 1. Allow me to multi-select and apply the same notes to all cells 2. Auto-uncover clues that you've unlocked in the Case Files 3. Give us some free DLC or lower the price -> even if it's just dice or something. 4. Hard mode is still a bit too easy against AI. It would be nice to have an even harder mode.
I played a match against the AI and watched Colonel Mustard confidently accuse himself of committing the murder in the Kitchen with the Candlestick, all while he was standing in the Conservatory. So, the bots are basically just your one chaotic relative at family game night.
