About time to do the review after getting all of the achievements. If you liked the old Motherload flash browser game from the 2000's, you will love this game. Even though the graphics are very simple and it looks a bit MS Paint/Cartoony, the actual mechanics are amazing. The movement is very crisp, being skilled at it makes a large difference to how well you perform each day and improves as the game progresses in a very smooth way so that by the time you think you are moving a bit slow, you will likely be able to upgrade it. This follows the mining as well. You do start off slow and there is a bit of a learning curve on the best way to mine or the best way to not trap yourself and lose out on resources but by the time you feel like the tool you are using isn't keeping up with the increasing daily requirement, you can probably afford an upgrade, or more likely pivot into another mining method. Onto that part, each different tool type does feel different enough to justify having such a diverse range of them. Each gun does feel different and each magic tool has enough of a gimmick that it feels like you are doing something different from the last run. There are some types which are just more powerful than others but their relative costs does allow you to trying something different without feeling like it is a waste of time. The different classes and maps do make the tool selection more valid as locking you of out some with the classes or having maps that benefit the different tool types once again makes each new run feel that little bit different and different enough to enjoy just going for another run. Having played in the second playtest and seen how much different and better the game is now compared to then, I have to give kudos to the developer, ByeByeOcean, for being so responsive to the comments and suggestions and putting the work in the change to game into what it is now, especially being a solo project. There wasn't anything I saw suggested that wasn't either done or at least worked on if it was realistic and also the dedication to trying to fix bugs and issues with performance (which really hits on those longer runs) showed how they genuinely care about this game and want to make it as fun as possible for the community. Overall, this is a very fun game. The game play is tight, responsive and repetitive in a great way that makes you want to come back and improve on what you did last time. There is a decent skill ceiling but once you get good, you really feel it, especially in the harder game modes. The developer keeps on fixing issues and adding new content post-launch which is one of the best signs for any game. Would recommend purchasing even if not on sale which is rare looking back at how full of on-sale games my library is.

I didn't watch the trailer or read any of the game description. I saw DangerouslyFunny's YT video of this and thought that I could be smarter than a YouTuber. I am not smarter than a YouTuber. This game is hard! xD Edit: I read the game description. It didn't help.

The graphics can best be described as: existing The gameplay loop is simple and sadly not really all that difficult. There is very little meta progression (unlocking characters and biomes) And yet... Somehow the mindless task of mining coal all day is kinda addicting. And it's suuprisingly well optimized. You can hire literally endless workers to help you, and it only starts to affects the framerate once you get past several thousand. And it stays somewhat playable until you get into the upper reaches of billions of workers. It plays as if it was stresstested by Let'sGameItOut. (If you are on the fence because of the pricetag, try the free demo first. It's what roped me in)

Definitely could use some controller support. Other than that it's great.

I used to play this one flash game back in the day called something like Mother Lode, a game about mining and selling ore and upgrading your mining drill. This game scratches that itch 1000x over. The perfect game to chill-out with at the end of the night. The perfect for when you just yurn for the mines. Also really enjoying the battleaxe + mining drills. Great rogue-like, 10/10 game. EDIT: I stayed up all night until 3 AM to play the game, and I ended up playing until 10 AM. That was the filthiest thing I've done in gaming in so long lol. Also I appreciate the comments! I didn't know Motherload was still around! ^^
